Hi jonnyjim. I'm afraid Miracle Gro is not well thought of here. It uses chemical ferts and isn't great for canna. You absolutely should NOT add extra nutes until you are in mid to late flower, you'll burn the crap out of them. sad.gif

I recommend repotting into West+ Advanced, or any decent multi-purpose compost. Don't try to extract the compost they are already in from the rootball, you'll damage the plant.

Hello all,

Got my self a bit of a problem! I started of my seedlings in small plastic cups using miracle grow, I potted up to 4 inch pots with allot of difficulty because the compost i used was old and even when drenched with water would not hold together, as a result of this some roots broke, I am now ready to pot up again to organic compost but i am extremely weary as to what will happen this time!

I have read up on the guides to transplanting on uk420 (learning so much from you all) but was wandering if anyone has had this problem? or does anyone have any advice of what i should do? I am pretty certain that even if i tried to cut the bottom of the pot of and placed on top of another everything would drop out the bottom!

I guess you`ll just have to be very carefull and hope for the best good luck biggrin.gif

Cheers looks like ill need it! 34.gif

just do it slowly, i take my rooted cuttings out of their pots and remove almost all of the compost carefully, then i replant in the new pot with rootgrow.
just go easy on them
jonnyjim
It looks like ill have to! well i feel more confident knowing that it can be removed plus i suppose getting rid of the miracle grow has to be a good thing!

hi
are you sure there ready for potting up !!
if youv got a good root mass it should hold together
jonnyjim
Im pretty certain they are ready! I think my problem started from not watering properly the top layer was very dry and you can see where the roots tried to grow at the base of the plants but stunted so im guessing most the roots can only be at the botttom of the pot ? This is my first time growing! Im of to get my compost in the next few hours ! so i guess only then ill be able to tell!
