I'm planning my first grow and trying to decide on a suitable strain.

I'm basically looking for a strain that's easy to grow, gives an uplifting / happy high with as little anxiety as possible. Also anything with low odour would be a bonus too.

I'm considering feminised Skunk#1 as from what I gather it seems to be a good all rounder with a good high, decent yield and is seemingly well suited for beginners.

I know a lot of people advise against using fem seeds, and I do envisage sticking to the normal ones in future, but just this once for my first grow I think it might just make things that little bit more easier while I grasp the basics.

I've not bought any equipment yet but am looking at the Secret Jardin DR60 tent (60x60x140cm) and plan to use the SCROG method, growing about four plants or so.

Would Skunk#1 be suited to such a small tent as I hear it's mostly sativa based? Though I have heard that it grows more like an indica - is this true?

Would be great to get some opinions on the above or is there any other stains anyone would like to recommend?

I grew Sensi Skunk #1 for my first grow - you bet it was sativa heavy - fifteen weeks flowering and a HUGE plant to boot.

I was on a skunk mission though - so i grew DP's skunk#11 for a second grow - finished in 9 weeks on the nose far more indica in this - also they were from fems with no real major probs. Much better first time grow so i'd reccomend that.

So i reckon it depends on WHOSE skunk#1 you grow. The Sensi was a strong whooshing high - the DP's a more solid trad indica stone.

Im havin a pop at Flying dutchmans Pure, often when I hear skunk mentioned I dont hear about FDs version.. Its skunk no1 from what I know.. and they were only 20quid

anyways.. Ive got two and there both completely the opposite of one another, ones a lot more indica and quite short and the other is very tall but plenty of colas and now at 7 weeks there starting to fatten up good n proper Have a quick look at my diary, that should give you an idea of what to expect from this fd skunk #1

other than being a thirsty bugger its been easy to grow, had no probs at all really were the plants are concered..im sure ill always make one or two environment balls ups from time to time!!

I agree with hicksy, just grew some fd`s sk#1, easy to grow and good yeild.




I wouldn`t describe the smoke as uplifting/ happy high, dont get me wrong im well happy when i smoke it, but thats because im goosed. Compared too the big bang i grew at same time, i would say the big bang is the uplifting/ happy high and the skunk is the quick find a seat before i make a tit of myself smoke.

Both were fems and both were hassle free. the big bang was a bit more temperamental with the feeding and looked a bit rubber`d at chopping time but as hicksy says the sk#1 still look good.

Id recommend for a first grow grab some cheap seeds, seedsman or nirvana maybe, b52, ak48, seedsman skunk mix anything around or less than 15 quid really..

Id advise on a first grow also to forget the fems and get familiar with sexing plants..

However i have grown fems before and a nice sativa ish fem is dps voodoo it flowers very quick doesn't get big , responds to lst well so i imagine would SCROG well...

most importantly if your not a patient person, patience is something you gotta learn quick and try to curb your expectations of your crop because impatience and expectations of potency and yield will destroy your crop for you....( I know this from experience)

As a first time grow I'd just recommend something that takes around the 8-9 week mark.

was just sharing experience with someone new to growing. I found that when i first began i would chop plants to early out of impatient.. and expecting fantastic amounts of serious ganja from a crop will inevitably lead to disappointment ..so instead of being happy with what you got your disappointed because it aint what you expected..and is therefore destroyed.. my apologies for not making that clearer

My findings with sensi's skunk#1 weren't anywhere near Underwaters, all mine were very indica. Out of 4 plants i pretty much liked 3 of them with one of them being a stonker. It was done real quick too (just over 8 weeks). I don't know how common the satty phenos are now, but i'd love to find one myself

Out of choice though i would go for Flying dutchmans version, as already mentioned by hicksy and timo. Really cheap and some absolute crackers to be had, i liked it so much i'm doing it again. I've heard people mention that the dutch passion version has thrown out some real weird tasting plants but i think they are the only ones who do a feminised version. Personally i'd stick with the non fems and go for The Pure (flying dutchmans Sk#1)

I know mine arent sensi seeds but i cant see either of mine finishing in under 9 weeks! its week 7 now and only a few pistils have browned off and a shit load have come out! Id have thought skunk #1 should be pretty much the same wherever you get it from? its been around for decades right also I havent looked about but IMO you shouldnt pay more than 20quid or so for any skunk #1..

I hope this sat pheno isnt rare, I didnt take any cuts! I did something wrong when I germinated them so only three popped, one fella and two girls.. one of them is very indica and the other one is this.....

Im pleased with em, specially as I get best of both. I had two NLxBBs in this grow and i gotta say they were really really shit! i did some nirvana for my first and they were great but as you'll hear over and over again Nirvana are hit and miss and on your first grow you dont want a let down!

The last 3 i did (Pures) all went a bit over 10 weeks which isn't bad imo, they were still very indica dominant though. I'd love to find a more sativa dominant one

Never tried the nirvana one, no point really as it's so cheap from the other seedbanks.

Hi guys thanks for your replies so far. Been doing some digging around the net tonight re. indica Vs sativa.

As mentioned I'm really after a weed with the kind of high that's going to cause the least amount of anxiety / paranoia as possible. Been smoking the ganj for 14 years now and love the stuff but the only thing that slightly spoils it sometimes these days is the anxiety I get. When I'm stoned I often feel fine when I'm with family and close friends but will sometimes get a bit jittery and nervous around strangers.

Never used to be like this at all but the symptoms were brought on by being mentally bullied by some cunt in my previous job. The weed didn't cause it at all but unfortunately these days I find the symptoms can often be multiplied when I'm stoned.

I've always thought I'd be more suited to a sativa due to my bad nerves but after some of the stuff I've read tonight maybe an indica would be better?

If it's any help at all, when I take other drugs, stuff like coke and caffeine will stress me up and send my nerves through the roof but I find ecstasy will really chill me out and banishes all the nerves.

Also how much of a threat is all this Tom Brake / parliament bill to ban seeds on 17th October? Should I be worried and get them bought asap (maybe sounds stupid but half of me is tempted to just panic buy any half decent seeds tomorrow just incase they get banned next week!).

i grew fem skunk 1 for my first grow. sweet whoosing upper buzzing high and good yeild (5 1/2oz off 2 plants), taste wasnt up to much though. i'd recommend a 8-9 weeker for your 1st, i was pulling my hair out waiting to chop and caved after week 11 before the plant was anywhere near finished!

It doesnt really affect me like that either, although..I rey and buy my muchies before I spark up joints! theres nowt worse than getting fucked then going to the shop somehow i forget how to speak and become very aware of what my arms are doing.....



Now that I do understand. Cunts in my last job had me in the docs in some states! I left 3 months ago after 3 1/2 years and thought I could let it go and move on but I cant, I cant forget how much my life got fucked up because of how i felt all the time... so im suing them! get some advice mate you might find you can do something about it.

I dont recommend E's and coke, though id be lying if i said i havnt had my fun in that dept. from what i can remember from those days E floods your brain with seratonin (sp) which makes you feel happy.. but it damages the nerve endings in you brain that respond to the seratonin so over time you can find it hard to be happy at all... that could be bollocks but its always what i thought. Maybe you feel nervous because your not overly confident in yourself?? as a result of being put down..if thats the case then the weed might just highten that feeling so you notice it (bit like me in the shop) id say work on gettin your head in a good place and it wont so much matter what weed ya smoke

OK just ordered a pack of 10x The Pure from FD. Cheap as chips (only $EU 27.50 delivered) and even if they're not the finest smoke in the world they'll certainly be good to practice with at least and maybe after I improve my growing skills I'll be able to move onto some more connoisseur blends. Fingers crossed Mr Brake doesn't get his evil way in the meantime!

So once again muchos gracious for all the advice and I'll certainly be posting my grow diary when I get started and hope you'll all be joining me to watch the babies bloom!

I'm growing a few different strains at the moment and White Label Skunk #1 is amongst them. It is by far the largest plant, quickest flowering, looks like it will be the heaviest yield and is covered in nice thick sticky residue. Can't recommend it enough - I only took a 10 cuttings, wish I had taken more.
