Till they are dry. stoned.gif

It comes with experience tbh m8, when the stems will snap is a good indicator.

to many factors to give you a realistic time frame.

I hang my buds on a rack in a dark room that has a very quiet bathroom fan on 24/7. This air pumps into me flower room which has the proper extraction system.

my buds usually take from 7-9 days, but occasionally longer especially as they are now getting dense from all the great advice I've gotten here. My rh averages between 50% to 60%. I put them in jars and occasionally crack the jars for a few minutes if they still seem a bit moist.

The rule of thumb that I go by is to put them in jars once the stems "crack" more than "bend" when you try to bend the stem. This works well no matter what your environment happens to be.

Everyone says me bud is the best they know of. Sweet and potent. thumbsup.gif

7 days is generally regarded as a minimum time for drying. If they are drying faster then that then perhaps the temp in your dry room is too high? unsure.gif

you also need to give it a cure time of months for all the turpentines and chlorophyll to break down leaving sweet stinky bud......rush the dry and cure and your going to have hash weed no matter how well you grew it.

so like i said bro just test it out
dry a small amount at a time
dry 1 part for like 4 days (nasty taste)
go for 7 days.. n so on n so on
till u get the taste n satisfaction u like smile.gif

Not entirely true I'm afraid. I don't "cure for months" and everyone says me buds are sweet. As do I! I'm thinking that the rubber seals on me glass jars may not be perfect and that enough vapor transfer occurs to allow the buds to sweeten. But really, I've smoked the bud very soon after drying and there is no harshness. I've also had buds for months and they taste no different.

Maybe just another urban pot myth that folks keep repeating without actually real world experience to back it up? Or perhaps that my compost is nearly all organic? unsure.gif

yes and i hear you have a huge cock too!

sure your bud are stunning compared to the stick and seed on the street.....but i think most growers would agree that a long cure (months over weeks) results in far superior smoke.

Hey. I would have no problem ramming that gun up yer arse until the barrel sticks out of your mouth. It would probably be the best use of that piece of artilliary.

funny you never see people saying "my weed is shit".......?

iv seen your grow diary's, looks shit hotbud......but if you think a short cure of weeks will result in "the best there is" IMHO and experience im going to have to disagree.

Now get back down the The Castro, the boys are missing you bird.gif

hmmmm Looks like Greyhound can book me a one way ticket from Idaho to San Francisco for next to nothing..

I'm on my way down to San Francisco... Make some room on the couch for me... I gotta come sample this.

Now then....

I too am ultimately curious about bud thats been drying/curing for months before its smoked. I'm certain that I've never had the privelage of trying this... but I really cant imagine it being that much better. Not that I'm saying it wouldn't be..I just dont have any frame of reference. I've tasted some pretty sweet and delicious earthy tasting herb thats only been cured/dried for a week... and I couldn't imagine there being any room for improvement... but maybe?

Looking forward to trying your herb Rand! What will you have me sample?

Sorry Rev. Nothing personal but I don't invite folks off the internet to visit me. Especially from a forum such as this. I don't need to prove how sweet me bud is. To anyone.

I think one of the main factors is size and density of the bud. A popcorn bud from a side branch can be ready to jar/cure in like 5 days, but a donkey dick top off a fat plant can take like 10 days.

Like Pep said too many variables. I leave mine till they are ready, i dont count days....and that comes from experience. I find sativa buds dry a little quicker as they have a more open structure and can be less dense.

On the curing debate, i generally smoke through my jars one by one after a minimum month cure. The jar that is first has a slightly harsher taste than the ones that come after....but also, the last jar is never as good as the middle ones....the weed is ofter too dry and flavour has dissapated somewhat. It also comes dowm to personal preferences and tastes, ie heavy or light smoke.
Randalizer
If I may ask semtex? What sort of jars do you use? Canning style with glass lids/rubber gaskets or screw on lids?
Blayz'd
I got a couple of large glass jars with the clamp down lid sort of thing but the other day I found these little beauties. Don't know if you get this in the US mate but for anyone in the UK these are well worth it if you buy coffee in jars. Glass lids with plastic gasket type affair. Quite suited for the smaller buds. Bigger than a kenco to give you an idea. Have a look next time your in the shop. Costs a couple of quid a jar and you get a load of coffee in it for free. wink1.gif

Course you can pal. (love your avtar by the way)

I use "le parfait" jars. They come in 3 sizes and i have each size. I use the big ones for tops, small ones for smaller buds etc. they are quite expensive but when it comes to Canna my motto is "no expense spared". Money = quality = a happy semtex.

They are french jars that are notmally used in cooking. They have a thick rubber seal and a strong clamp. I do not use screw ons as the lids are metal or plastic and impart a slight flavour. Glass imparts no flavour. They are easy to wash too and dish-washer proof (you take the rubber seal off when washin with hot water as the hot water can perish the rubber therefore affecting the seal and quality)

I also never fill the jar, i find you get a better cure when the jar is 1/2 to 3/4 full. Also i dont open mine for an hour a day, i open it for longer periods every week. (sometimes emptying the buds out and putting them back in again)

Thats just how i do it and it works for me.

Le parfait are the best jars for the job IMHO (got a huge range of sizes from France when i was over last, the 3L ones are hench!)

my buds get cured for about a month before i really start tucking in, but i do smoke bud uncured, i find when it's cured longer it smells better. can't really tell a difference in harshness though, thc degrades over time though, dunno why but people seem to think cured bud is stronger? maybe more well rounded, as in there's more cbn but thc wise it can't be stronger

soma enters his buds into the cc without curing them.... dunno if he's ever won anything? i imagine probably yes
tony2wheelsgood
the sugars in the bud break down over the first few weeks making the smoke less harsh with time. if the plant was low in leaf sugars when it was picked, it will taste better quicker.
curing is a totally different process and is achieved when the thc is heated. the heat wall ahead of the burning tip in your spliff does this as does warming in butter when using it for cooking.
it is generally accepted that it takes about 6 weeks for the thc to cure naturally but this is only useful if you're going to use it unheated, - dissolved in olive oil as a dressing for example.
hope this helps.

Ahh, nice one KC, had a quick look for them but couldn't find any at the time. I'll have a proper look for them now I know they exist. Good jars them. thumbsup.gif

I've got buds over 18 months old, you do notice a difference with some new arrivals. Older is mellower for my strains, Blueberry is supposed to have a long shelf life, and I did get the dry/cure process perfected by uk420. It's a weightier high, long lasting weed with no harshness at all.

And can we stop homo erotic bs now and move on... biggrin.gif

Needless to say.. I'm going to have to do an experiment of my own as far s the drying/curing process goes. I'd bet it probably is a little better if it is cured longer.
