Full Version: Uneven ripening, how to harvest

Hi, I`m growing Lavender (I think) strain and its approaching the end of week 9.

My problem is that these plants stretched like crazy including the flower tops. Now I have buds lower down in the plant that are ready for harvesting but the bulk of the tops are still trying to fill out the stretched heads.

I know normally this would be a simple matter of taking lower branches off and leave the tops for a while, but the lower branches have stretched to reach the top canopy (helped by emergency LST on the tops of plants) and the ends of these branches are still maturing too, so its not a simple matter of lopping them off.

Also these long bottom branches do not have much in the way of secondary branches that I can cut, they just have buds dispersed along them. The lower buds have completely brown pistils and could do with coming off, but I can only do this if I start snipping the buds off of their branches, leaving me with drying issues.

What do you think guys??

There are lots of pics on the last page of my main post, there is a link to the post in my signature.

Anyone come up against this before? Any comments or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks Booty

I read that as 'I'd take a few lil ones off the branch if it was my plant...'not like' I'd take a few off your hands'

Anyway, I had a skunk#1 which did the same, the top half got a severe bend and stopped growing for 3 weeks to heal while the bottom of the plant continued to mature and swell. I ended up taking the lower buds off the stem when they were fat and ready, and drying them on a fabric screen turning them over every day. Worked just fine and my supply didn't run dry!
Good luck, I'd say go for it.
btw, I used nail scissors too

Doh, of course I am a stupid f**k, I have another thread on here with my new grow of some AK47`s, and have a few spare and thought he was referring to taking a few of those if I had the need to get rid, Like I say I`m a stupid f**k. blushing.gif

Sorry for the misunderstanding docgr33n. The funniest part is I thought you were having a laugh and suggesting that I get in amongst my ladies and trim em in there whilst on the plants with some nail scissors! (for some reason, Oh yeah obviously I was very stoned at the time!) spliff.gif

I prefer light but decent sized scissors, the type where you can get a couple fo fingers in the handle, I tend to get cramp and strains if I use small ones, though I`ve found the Japenese bonzia scissors ok.

Yeah my own supply is not in question, I took a few nice peices the other day and they`re drying nicely. wink1.gif

They`re big plants to go through taking all the ripe buds off but I may have to do that.

Jim, my lavender(?) did`nt really slow down when I bent em and despite snapping a couple of main stems, I just splinted them up and they just changed direction and carried on stretching. Due to the bending ant twisting of these plants the bottom branches, even the very bottom ones have reached the tops. The buds all the way along the brtanch are ready but the very tops of them are still ripening up, on the lower buds all the pistil hairs are orange and brown and they`re glistening with a lovely glitter of trich`s. I`m just going to have to keep an eye on them. I quite like a narcotic stone so I guess they`ll be ok. I cant find my magnifying glass so cant really check the trich`s. I may try some macro pics tmro and then blow em up onscreen.

Thanks guys, Booty
