Hi groovers....

Been quiet in Tilt's Laboratory for a while

Just gone to get some of this year's outdoor harvest, but a bit too late: rottten late summer here and the bud is just starting to rot on the plants. Very little of what I've harvested is actually rotten, and I've examined every stem destined for drying and bud collection and taken out any bud that has any trace of rot, and immediately trimmed the lot to facilitate drying. So far so good, though it will be more difficult when I get the next lot in a few days, I guess.

So I now have about half a kilo of fresh trim and popcorn bud with a small amount of rot in it. There seems to be no mould, however. I normally dry before making ice hash, but I'm thinking I should freeze this lot as it is and see what I can do with it in the ice buckets.

What I don't know and would appreciate good advice on from someone wilth experience of the same problem:

Will freezing halt the rotting process?

Would it be better to try to get any completely rotted bud out of it? I've tried smoking dried rotted bud and it just gave me a headache

Will rot without mould create any contamination in the ice water? Not just at the bottom with the trichs, but also within the water itself, as I use it all for different extractions.

What would be the best way to dry the plant mass after the ice extractions (still with some mould elements in it) with the intent of butaning it?

Resin theorethically cannot rot, just the plant matter does. That the resin's active content (THC etc.) might change when the attached plant matter rots is, I think, possible.

I have allways froze my trim green for making bubble makes nicer full melt imo as for the rot i would try my best to remove it before freezing. I am not sure on weather it will spread withinbags while freezing but not worth the chance.I hope you have a fruitful harvest good luck tilt stank

Thanks Stanky, just I don't use bags and I extract stuff from different parts of the ice trich water. Mould obviously creates spores that would mess up my fun and games in that respect, but rot... just dunno if it will leave traces in the water, even floating.

Won't the mould "go to sleep" in the freezer and multiply again once the correct temperture/conditions are reached?

What did you try & did it work?

I put any obviously rotted bud on one side to dry for BHO, and made the rest into hash. Yes, it worked.... very well too as one can see from the results in my ice-hash thread. I decided for the hash alone it would even be alright to leave it in there, as only the unrotted resin i extracted, but I do a lot of secondary extractions from the water itself so it was better taking it out. More in my thread as I said.

Well im about to embark on an ice adventure gonna need some help as usual...if you could indulge me tilt as pretty much be copying you...

This is freshly picked buds/trim some less than a day old, im about to go get another bags worth cause of this rotten weather...small amounts of mold in there...

First question, ive picked apart some of the bigger buds (like superglue sticky) do i need to pick apart all the big buds or can they just go in stems and all? As you can see i havent even trimmed some staright of the plant and in will taht be alright?

Thisll be going in the freezer tonight and the operation will comence tommorow...

Most questions are answered in that, I think.
Yous not gonna get much from that much weed. Reckon you'll need at least 200 gm. fresh (equivalent to about 2 oz. dry), just bud and leaves, to make the trouble worth it. Rip it up before you freeze.... it's only water you'll be using, not solvent, so you have to try to expose the trichs you wanna knock off.
