Finally after weeks of talking about it and a few hours hard work we have completed our first growbox. Its a bit shabby aroung the edges. But well excited now.

The Lowryder seeds are germinating - so nearly good to go.

The box includes:-

2 x 12 volt fans running at 6 volts
1 x 200w Envirolite
Lined with bog standard tinfoil (ashamed to say)
2 x lite hangers

We decided to duck tape all the edges to cut down on light spillage, however haven't been able to come up with a good idea as to how to get the door to shut properly (due to out shoddy workmanship).

We have currently got 3 x chilli plants in there that were in a bad way in the greenhouse to see what will happen. As soon as the seeds have popped through the soil they will be religated again.

Have a look at the pics and let me know if you have any advice or tips.

Yup dont ever bring outdoors plants inside as you will bring the bugs in with you to! If I was you I would either finish growing chili's then clean with a bleach solution or dump chili's and clean it now.

How about a blackout curtain over the front to block light? Quick easy and does the job! Also means you shouldnt need holes to allow air exchange.

Have you though about smells? If thats a problem you will need a carbon filter and an extraction fan.

You could also do with a thermometer in there to check the temps.

If you are doing in outbuilding or garage you may need to add heating.

Have you got timer for light? Can get very cheap from Supermarkets if you need.

Um I think thats about it?

Hope that helps.

Good luck

I built one of these as well for vegging and it is working well. If you have a light leak round the door try the stuff you get for draught excuders for windows & doors, that worked a treat for mine!

also if this is going in your loft, you mght have problems with temps. I only have 125w cfl in there and the temps were hitting 36 degreeswith both fans on fullpelt!!

have fun smoke.gif

A seconding of the warning about bringing in pests to an indoor environment with no predators.

I once brought in the borg on a box of epsom salts. sad.gif

for quick and easy i'd just use 2-3 sheets of 100% lightproof film, like the panda sheets but pure white and thicker

what strains of chilli are you growing?

i've some dorset naga, scotch bonnet and numex on the go at the mo...i like a spicy meatball spliff.gif

i also agree that moving plants in/out is a bad move for the beasties, once they see the way they can live indoors with the sky and flatscreen tv's they never want to leave ph34r.gif

Thanks for that.

Crap - i never even thought of the beasties. I hope i haven't put the whole project in jeoprady now.

Chilli plants have been removed and i will wash out with bleach solution tomorrow.

Do you really think i will have a temperature probkem with the envirolite - the guy in the shop said it shouldn't be an issue?

What distance away from the plant should i put the light? And from what size should i put them below the light.

I am currently waiting on them to break the soil.

Ok ....Im a little pissed but heres the basics...

Never grown with Enviro's so dont know much about them...

But with any light put you hand underneath them (palm down) at plant height for a minute, if it feels painful/uncomfortable they are too close, if not alls good (maybe adjust for maximum light) as you dont want too far way.

I have done a few LR strains & they like to be in 6-10L pots to begin with. Bigger pot = bigger yield.

Make sure they dont dry out too much while waiting to pop...

Also read this site for info on watering its well worth while!

Temps with enviro (never tried them myself) may not be too high but may drop too low depending on where you grow, get a thermometer!

Also if you have not already read upon best compost for grows and nuits (I find biobizz grow & bloom is all you need).

Hope this helps.

I like your grow box mate! thumbsup.gif Shame about the lowriders though, the smoke just aint great. I would suggest getting some proper seeds next time. Infact mate if I were you I would get somer proper seeds on the go now, you can bend and tie them to keep em low. This way come harvest time you will be smokin lowrider and harvesting some quality bud.

Hello Doni,

goodluck with the growbox, I have read somewhere tho that aluminium/tin foil is not very good for light reflection as it normally crinkles up sending light in wrong directions, flat white paint has a higher reflection rate (approx 85 - 93%) compared to 70-75% that tin foil produces. In fact tin foil is considered one of the least reflective materials that can be used. Hope this helps spliff.gif

Lookin good mate id agree about the tin foil mate better off painting or investing in some black n white sheeting from any
hydro stores looks good though keep us up to date with the grow smile.gif

Its all true! Also, the foil reflects more heat than light.
If you're pinchin penny's then try a 99p shop or the like for a survival blanket, it's made from mylar and works a treat, i did my first grow with it and only spent 4 quid!
