Well I bought this ATC-800 Digital temperature controller from fleabay couple of weeks ago, was really cheap otherwise wouldnt have bothered and thought it may be of some use in my upcoming drobe im building but bugger me the instructions are some of the worst iv ever seen! Talk about lost in translation!!
I emailed the seller and got him to send me a wiring diagram as it didnt even provide you with one and didnt tell you which pins to put live and earth too even!(Thought when I bought it would run of a little transformer but apparantly not!) Well the wiring diagram he sent me surprised me a little as I thought it would have just had live outputs for the cooling and heating seeing as its 240v going in to the unit but nope it seems to switch the lives to the appliances which you must feed in to the unit first, seems bit silly really as there is 240v in there already but maybe this is safer although I cant see how 3 seperate live 240v inputs which are not that well shielded can be but im not the most qualified to say so thought id ask a few opinions on here as dont want to use if its no good or not safe!
Il add some pics of the unit and the wiring diagram and tell me what you guys think please?
Idea was to use it in a 80 x 80 drobe 230cm high with a very small oil filled rad 0.5 kw and either with dual stage extractor fan or just couple of clip fans blowing up and at hid for cooling but welcome to suggestions or ideas?
Would be using intake and extraction fans anyway just wanted to try and automate it for ease of use and when it gets cooler in evenings as I predict it will in the room im gonna use in my new house. No problems with neighbours, noises or smells as no other houses for least half a mile just want to get the enviroment set up as perfect as I can, drobe would just be used for flowering and id have seperate one for vegging although I may pull the air through this first if I set them up alongside each other.
Its specifications from the dodgy instructions are as below:

Outputs: <4W
Accuracy: +/- 1 Degree C
Distinguish: 0.1 Degree C
Display range: 0-45 Degree C
Control range: 5-40 Degree C adjustable
Control temperature difference: 1-5 Degree C adjustable
Sensor: NTC,shielded line
Relay contact capacity point volume: Heating 10A(MAX) 240 VAC; Refrigeration, 25A(MAX) 240 VAC
Compressor delayed protection time: 3 minutes (forcible)
Alarming output: Buzzer

Pics: (hope they come out ok)

Oh and the idea is you set your temperature you want to maintain then add a variable of between 1 and 5 degrees and if it goes higher than this it turns on your cooling system (fans) or if it drops below this it turns on your heating system.
Whether it works in the real world I have no idea lol.gif

Any electricians in the house!?! unsure.gif

the controller is designed to be panel mounted, i.e. in an electrical cabinet with just the display showing, that's why all the terminals are exposed, as they would be inside the cabinet, you need to get yourself an enclosure and cut a hole in the front to mount the controller, then just wire it up as the diagram shows

looks like a nice bit of kit though, think it's the same as the one whazzup used, maybe give him a pm, think he put a thread up somewhere

Soz for my slowness but many thanks for the reply Scraglor, thats put my mind at rest, il let you all know how I get on with it when finally get to use it wink.gif

I was using an ATC-800 to control my ventilation-bypassing my 5 step silent speed controller when the temp went above my chosen point- This unit is brilliant for the money! Very cheap compared to similar units in growshops, very easy to fit and wire up, it is simple to set and it works great. I should say it worked great because some shit eating ,dickless bastards stole it along with some other stuff(like my only cheese mother and her offspring) 3 weeks ago.
Anyway this bit of kit is great and I can honestly recommend it highly to anyone with the ability to wire a plug.
It can control a cooling circuit (fans/aircon) and a heating circuit so you can have fans come on/speed up when its too hot or have a heater come on when its too cold. It basically does the same job as the Ecotechnics Evoloution temperature controller, except with that Ecotechnics unit you set a Max temp and a Min temp. With this ATC800 unit you set a chosen temp or your "perfect" level, and then set a "differential", this is how many degrees above or below your chosen(perfect) setting you want the temperature to swing before it switches on the appropriate item(fan/heater) for example you could set it for chosen temp 24 degrees with a differential of 4 degrees, giving you a minimum of 20 degrees and a maximum of 28 degrees. The only flaw in this is that when your heater comes on at night it will stay on until your room reaches the chosen set temperature (24degrees in my example) as opposed to just keeping the room at the minimum level of 20..Hardly a concern really unless you are growing strains that rely on a good night time temp drop for colouring or other reasons.
I have no hesitation in buying another ATC800 for when i grow again, no problem, it is a great bit of kit and for 30-40 pounds plus shipping(depending on who u buy it from) you cant go wrong(provided you are confident about and competent at wiring in a safe and tidy manner), 3-5 quid for a plastic box, some sockets, a fuse holder and some cable and bobs ur uncle.
Seriously I dont mean to repeat myself but i think every grower who likes putting their own equipment together or is short on cash but still wants a well controlled growroom climate should have at least one of these ATC800 units. Its brilliant, I didnt have any problems with operation, it worked great and was a doddle to wire up once id got Scraglors assistance. I havent seen whazzups controller using it(Ihave seen the one he made with an atc 300-thats the little black one), but I did read that he was using the heating circuit wired the wrong way round to have a second cooling setting interacting with his transformer speedo insead of being a heating circuit... The man is a genius and I am going to look for that controller right now....
Ive still got all the diagrams Scraglor did for me and that i copied out if they would be of any help...
In conclusion any1 who is considering this unit- its easy to set up so buy it I dont predict you being unhappy with it, unless of yourse you really like it and it gets stolen like mine-but then would mean that youd be unhappy without it more accurately huh!.....
