Depends. Multiplayer with mates either super mario kart or super bomberman on the SNES. Multiplayer online probably the unreal tournament series. Single player turn based strategy the civilization series (NOT including the atrocious call to power ones). Real time strategy the Dawn of War series. single player console Resident Evil 4 on the gamecube (though the rest of the resident evil series, except perhaps Code Veronica on the Dreamcast, is shite).
If I had to pick one it would be a toss up between Super Mario Kart and Resident Evil 4 (RE4 is perhaps the most perfect single player game ever made, but Super Mario Kart is perhaps the most perfect multiplayer game ever made).

Actually i think RE 4 goes a little too far from the original story line of the RE games.. this makes me a bit sad but i hope they will redem themselves in RE 5

Not really arsed about the storyline, I just think it's a belting good game. The mechanics are superb, the pace is just right, the couple of interactive cutscenes (the knife fight with Krauser etc) are perfectly executed, the replayability is incredible (what with Operation Ada and the Mercenaries mini games). All told it's a blindingly good game. Which is very surprising given that you can't say any of the above for the previous RE games. They are completely unoriginal (the whole idea, down to the fixed camera angle third person perspective and the inventory system is stolen from the Alone In The Dark series), the gameplay is slow and tedious broken up by the occasional bit of frantic button bashing as you get cornered by a horde of enemies, the camera angle sucks warm shit through a straw (with most deaths coming when you get attacked by some enemy you can't see or get trapped in a corner). But hey, the story is passable

Code Veronica is the best of the pre RE4 series, and that's only because the story & cutscenes flatter the otherwise dismal gameplay.
Edited to add as you can tell, I'm not a Resident Evil fan. Which is why I was so impressed with RE4.

I'm in the middle of that one right now

It's pretty good, just got to the castle.... but then I got into Heatseeker and bam I'm stuck on it til I finish it...
I'd give RE4 a thumbs up vs the umbrealla chronicles... I think the latter is just not my flavor of game though action strategy through target shooting

i dont disagree with you in the gameplay bit it's a good game no doubt.. otherwise i wouldnt have completet it 4 times.. i was a bit disappointet though when there where no prices for completing it fast or without getting killed or stuff like that. like in the previous games where rewards could be found like the extra set of clothes for leon in RE 2 if you picked up no ammo until the police station then the zombie in the small passage through the park would have a key to a locker with the extra clothes

In context to the machines and their eras, my favourites would be:
Last Ninja 1&2 and Barbarian 1&2 on the Commodore 64
Speedball 2 and Dungeon Master/Chaos Strikes Back on the Amiga
Alien vs Predator on the Atari Jaguar
Doom and Final Doom on the Playstation
And on the PC (my current games platform): Dawn of War, Aliens vs Predator 2 and Commandos (the first one).
Unfortunately I broke the play cd of AvP2 taking it out of the case and my pc is too fast to run Commandos properly, even after slowing the cpu down.

Ah well, fond memories of many happy hours gaming.

There's certain completion bonuses (on the Gamcube at least. The Greystation version is shite compared the the GC version, poorer graphics, lesser gameplay & not as many features). Once you complete it on normal you unlock hard difficulty (if I recall correctly, been a while since I played it), the Operation Ada & Mercenaries mini games, alternative clothes for your character. Then when you complete Operation Ada and get maximum stars on all 4 Mercenaries games you unlock the hand cannon & chicago typewriter in the main game (buy from weapons guy, hand cannon is pretty much one shot kill, chicago typewriter is a tomy gun with unlimited ammo)

Yea but in the others you would find bonuses for completing the game in a certain time or doing/not doing specific things throughout the game. that aint the case in RE 4. or atleast not to my knowledge so far.

didnt know about the hand cannon either i must admit... but why use it when you have that big ass handgun that resempels a Desert eagle.. it kills everything easy... perfect for bosses

For me, nothing has bettered the GTA serious, for the diversity it offered in a single game and how much ground it broke, it kept me and many friends amused for thousands of hours ovber the years, i used to play pretty much every game that came out but tbh ive not really enjoyed anything for a few years now, they really bore me as im getting old(im 28

) had a 360 sat under my telly for over a year now and i can count the amount of times ive used it on one hand.
Top shout by Boojum Mario Kart and Bomberman would defo make my top 5, along with maybe Pro Evo and Chukky Egg.

well I'msort of a noob when it comes to games. Have played Halo 1 & 2, have doom 3 on me Mac and played pong in bars as a kid (and later at home).
RE 4 sounds good tho! I just may have to get the 360 (although I hate microsoft). I really want to play Halo 3! I hope RE4 is on that platform.
I also want to get playstation 3 since it also has a bluray player.

Here's a blast from the past that I thought was a belting good game, both in terms of gameplay and in terms of the whole look/feel of the game (in fact I think in terms of the design/look/feel/style of the game few have come close) - Jet Set Radio on the Dreamcast. I'd love to see a new gen version of that on one of the latest consoles. Powerstone & Powerstone2 on the DC were blinding multiplayer games too. It was a much maligned console but it had some damn fine games.

If you're considering buying a PS3 just bear in mind it uses a STUPID amount of electricity. It'll probably cost you more to play on your PS3 than it costs you to run your entire grow room. And your central heating.

Still, I guess the one bonus the PS3 has over the Xbox360 is that at least the PS3 doesn't get so hot that it melts the solder on the board so that the graphics chip falls off

N64 - Goldeneye all the way!

Aint gonna bother with GTA, well bored of those games.
I thought that Assasins Creed was bastard boring, Kane & Lynch L O L one of the worst games ever , Medal Of Honour : Airbourne was ok but plays like a bag of shit compared to COD 4, Pro Evo was utterly crap.
They're the only games I've played so far, gonna check out Metal Gear Solid soon, wanna get an NHL game coz I like 'em (even though I've never watched a game of Ice Hockey in me life) the mega drive ones where shit 'ot.
I quite like snooker/pool games aswell.
My PS2 became a DVD player after about a year of playing it - mainly using my PS3 to transfer films onto, saves burning them onto discs, very handy.

I see a lot of peps mention the GTA 4 game.. I was expecting a lot from this game but too be honest i was SO bored with it.. played it for about 5 hours and then i felt everything that could be done had been done. i personally think that GTA 4 was a GIANT

leap back from GTA san andreas. in terms of stuff you could do to make the game last longer than just the original story line. Haircut, body, clothing, gangs and so on.. you cant even fly a plane ffs... but that is just my appinion...
