Full Version: Appearance of amber trichs

I have a Top Skunk 44 plant that is getting close to harvest time. She has been flowering for 6 weeks and needs 8 apparently. Some of the trichs have started to go amber. I am not sure whether I want couch lock or not really, I never even knew there were different affects until I started growing! She was fed full strength hesi nutes yesterday so I can't chop her just yet. I am guessing that there will be a growth spurt over the next two weeks and some varieties produce amber trichs early and therefore after the growth spurt and it is ready there will be lots of amber. Whereas other varieties wil still be more milky after their growth spurt.

So my question is :- should you chop early, a plant like this, if you don't want lots of amber and miss out on the late growth spurt? And if I wanted to chop asap how long should I wait after her last feed? (Hesi nutes for soil used). giljotiini.gif

By waiting a further 2 weeks your buds should swell up and put some more weight on..... As waiting for the trych's to turn amber, they should turn cloudy first which would be a good time for you to chop if you dont wont amber trych's.

I would do as Gragz says aswell and wait another 2 weeks for them to stop putting bud weight on, just keep an eye on your humidity (try and keep it below 50%) and check regularly for mould and bud rot until harvest.

Thanks for clarifiying things for me. 95% of the trichs now are cloudy the rest being amber already.

Another question for you:-

I am considering drying my buds in the flowering room as I can best control the environment in there. However I have a couple of skunk haze plants that will be going for several weeks more yet and so I can't turn the tent over to solely drying yet. As I need to keep the drying buds in the dark I am thinking about hanging them in a box with holes cut in either end covered over with brown paper bag material that will hopefully breathe some. Does this sound like a silly idea? Will the paper bags allow enough air through? The alternative is in the loft but it gets pretty hot up there and I won't be able to plug in a fan. Any ideas?

hey dude, a bit off topic, but what did you use to take that pic?

wish i could get mine as clear cool.gif

I am lucky enough to have some decent camera equipment! That picture was taken with my Canon EOS 40D DSLR with a Canon EF 100 macro lens and I used a tripod too to keep it steady at that large magnification. Works great for little insects so its perfect for buds, crystals and trichs too. Cheers wink.gif

its a dogdy one just remember the darker the trichs the weaker it gets chop it dry it smoke it and go again

Hi ImjaTse,

you could dry it out that way but it will dry out faster than is best for canna really so is there not any place with lower temps in your home?

Cracking macro shot btw,top stuff. specool.gif

@greendean. The darker the trichs the weaker, don't get you mate,do you mean when they've oxidised and gone brown?

is it an expensive bit of kit if ya dint mind me asking :wink:ld go with the box idea mate, this time of year in your loft will be toooo hot with no extraction!!

It's the lens really that does the job. It is about £350. The camera was about £700 when I bought but you can get them cheaper now. But if you stuck that lens on a cheaper camera like the 350D or 400D (which you should be able to get second hand for a couple a hundred) and you'd get the same results. Quality macro lens on an SLR is what you need (and a bank loan! cool.gif ). A compact camera will never be as good as the sensor is so small.

Anyone have any idea about how long I should flush with Hesi nutes? They say 2 weeks but I have seen people here say 3 days. But is that for organic? It is 2 weeks then I will have to wait even if I want to chop as I fed here yesterday. Cheers all. rofl.gif

Oh sorry. I tried before and it kept failing. I'll have to shrink them so they get under your 250kb limit. Just so you know they are private on the host and noone else can see them. Have you had issues before? What are they?

Not really yes your thc starts to degrade but instead of the up high it turns into a more body stone with a nice sprinkle of amber.

Each to there own what they prefer i guess.

I'd keep an eye on those nanas though. Looks like a couple in that pic.

Hmm yes I had noticed them but what I read had convinced me that it would be okay to leave them as I would only end up with a couple of seeds. I have quite a few other plants in there with several weeks to go. I am not too worried about the yield, I am not a big time smoker. And although she hasn't really been flushed and was fed a couple of days ago I've been smoking trimmed buds for weeks and they don't taste too bad to me! Do you think she will pollinate the others? Should I chop her? Or just pull the bananas off?
quickbricky
pull the bananas out if there isnt to many
