I've been looking at a few sites ready for next year - planning to grow some auto dwarf strains for ultimate stealth ph34r.gif

Anyway, as this will be my first proper grow in years - how worried should I be about smell? I understand that some autos smell big style!

The sites I have earmarked are all pretty close to potential 'public' access (some within 50 feet of roads and footpaths). They are all well hidden (a casual observer won't stumble across then - good shielding from trees / nettles / fences etc) but if they're really whiffing it might encourage people take a closer look.

If I plant in singles / pairs to cut down the risk of a pong, how far away should I be from prying eyes? I'm thinking worst case here - warm sunny day with the wind gently blowing in the wrong direction.

Any help about site selection from seasoned growers would be a big help

Hi conemaker, i think the ones that are 50f or closer should be very carefully considerd, as the smell could be a problem and it's a bit close to call. spliff.gif

but then some say, randoms aren't gonna say "Hey, I can smell weed", most will think nothing of it imo - plus you got all sorts of smells going on in the forest, its hardly un-normal to get a whiff of a pungent smell in the woods if you know what I mean...

could always plant a barrage of fragant flowers around site, but I doubt that will combat it, nothing you can do about it really, just gotta prey and avoid un-necessary visits...

I only say coz ive had a mate that had outdoor crop stolen because of it, hes gutted that it wasnt as Stealthy as it should have been (A bit to close to civiliztion). sad.gif

Nah don't worry about it unless you're doing a field full of auto's .. how often have you been walking in the woods or countryside and suddenly smelt ganja .. never yeah .. so don't worry, get plotting for next year mate wink1.gif

I scouted around the forest the other day looking for a spot to do next years grow, good one I found as well. I was hoping to find someone elses trees - not that I'd steal it all, but I would of taken a nug or two (if it was around harvest date) and left a note saying thanks spliff.gif

Hey

Thanks for your thoughts.....

Skunkjockey - I hear where you're coming from - be gutted if I tended them nicely and some little shit ripped them off coz I wasn't being stealthy enough. I've been looking for quick in, tend and out again to avoid detection - maybe not the right idea?

Marcos / Smokey - never found any bud while I've been out and about despite looking - maybe one day thumbsupsmileyanim.gif Think I'd leave a note of congrats asking them to leave me a couple of buds come harvest time. I realise most people wouldn't be quite that good though and they'd rip the lot off - it's a sad world sad.gif

Stickybud - actually looking at rural locations rather than urban. Maybe I should get off the beaten track more and further away from footpaths / roads / rights of way?

How do you guys go about wandering around where you shouldn't be? Slightly off a footpath I can understand but if you want to get deeper into the unknown, do you do it after dark? Have a cover story that you lost ya dog or something?

I better get off my fat ass and head more off the beaten track - I guess after a few grows you get a feel for something and know when a place is right.

Thanks once again.

Lots of cover stories mate thumbsup.gif

Heres one: Take a metal detector with you, its a good excuse for the shovel as well.

If your just scouting for sites though, a dog would look normal. Also binoculars and the a-z book of birds rofl.gif

Dark is no good at all, go at 4am. everyone is sleeping then. Once you're off the beaten track, you wont find anyone believe me. I wore a backpack and I covered the spade handle with bin liner, didn't look dodgy at all.

The idea is to drop in and drop out as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Use google earth.

Get the site prepped by various methods a few months before planting, usually turn the soil over, chuck in some chicken poo/bonemeal/bat guano/compost etc, come back in mid may with some month old seedling which you start at home with a box vented with PC fans, and a 125w eco light. Make sure the eco light is timed to correspond with actual daylight hours in May, don't try to pre-sex using 12/12 method, as i ended up with loads of mutating girls, when planted. sad.gif Just come back early August and chop the boys out. Easier that way.

Happy growing, a fun hobby and a spiritual journey.

Peace,

Il give you a very very good tip DO NOT plant near a farmers crop as my grow was wiped out last week because he'd been spraying some sort of pesticide on his crop and the wind has blown it onto my plants now there fucked really fucked thumbsup.gif

Surely it will differ? What was he growing on that field?

I'm guessing this nasty shit is only applicable to certain type of crops, if only we knew which ones wouldn't harm our plants g.gif

goodluck for next year leepy

Hey Leepy - saw your grow man, that's what inspired me to have a dabble myself so what bummed when I saw what Farmer Giles did to it.

Keep your chin up mate - this time next year you'll be sitting back with some massive trees somewhere waiting to harvest it big I'm sure of it thumbsupsmileyanim.gif
