all right guys & gals

right, here goes.

i need some help & recomendations on setting up a distro board rated to at least ip56 & preferably portable for ease of use.

the location i've got in mind is a garage where i did a grow before in a 1x1x2 tent but that time i used a
400w hid with 1 5" fan. but that time, i hadnt really read up on electrics tho i did use a contactor.

the garage is wired into the houses rcbs panel & is on a 20A rcb, its wired up through a 4 way junction box & is
powering the combi boiler, 1 13A double socket & 2 60w lights.

i was wondering if its easier to run a cable to the junction box or to the socket ?

heres the 2 ideas i have

if i go with plan 1, whats the best cable to use, 6mm or 2.5mm twin core & earth as the rcb is rated at 20A.

if i go with plan 2, whats the best type of cable to go with this, 13a cable ?

or would i be better changing the rcb in the cu to a higher rating ?

im planning on using either another 400w or a 600w hid, a contactor, single variac fan controller with the option to
upgrade to 2 variacs, a 6" extractor with a 5" intake, a water pump, a air pump, water heater, 2 6" clip on fans
& a spare socket for adding a tube wall heater in the winter.

any tips or ideas are most welcome biggrin.gif

thanks

Plan 1 for me, I would put the variac on a plug top and use a socket to power it, its easy to turn off then, or you could use a switched spur, IMO two cables in one fuse is crap.

Cheers EM2

i hadnt thought that things out too well doh.gif

see what you mean about the variac, what about the garage CU, would i be better using a smaller 40A mcb ?

also, whats the ideal cable size to use, would 4mm be ok or would i be safer using the 6mm ?

thanks

TBH mate I dont understand the picture, you say theres a 20A feeding the garage is this right??

The garage DB is already installed?, the 63A I thought was just the rating of the main switch

Are you planning on putting a new submain in between the garage and house??

Point is with a 20A feeding the lot, 2.5 cable is enough, for a radial socket circuit I would use at least 4mm but thats just me
arai
sorry for not being clear enough EM2.

yep, the garage is wired into a 20A mcb with 2.5mm cable, this goes into a 4 way junction box & supplies the boiler, 1 double socket & 2 lights.

i was planning a board with an additional garage CU for added protection & plugging it into the double socket or into the junction box. this way its easier if i want to move the board at a later date.

thanks

You sound like you know what to do mate, seeing how you aren't powering that much I would be tempted to put it on a plug top, easy to unplug and power up anywhere, obviously your limited to 13A, which would be a good thing seeing how you only got a 20A supply, stops you losing the boiler, a 10A would be better but...................

Good luck
