Found some intersting Energy Saving bulbs, they fit your standard light bulb fixtures, I was planning on using a three of them for vegging.
65w(325w). They are only a little larger than a standard Energy Saver light bulb and seem to be self ballasted.

Colour temperature 6400k
Luminescence at 250mm – 4200 Lux (minimum required for individual SAD therapy is 2500 Lux)
Design – Compact Semi Spiral
Equivalent to 325 watts
Length 220mm Max Dia 74mm

Anyone have any experiences with these?

A couple of these bulbs arrived on Friday so here is more information for those who may be interested.

They have a standard light bulb bayonet style fitting and are approx twice as large (in all dimensions) as a standard energy saver bulb. The bulb glass has a spiral style design.

6400K
4200 Lumens @ 25cm away

They give off a white/blue light and are very bright when switched on. I think a bulb per plant would be pretty good for the whole of veg.

Cheers,

¿How much are they, and is shipping costly? unsure.gif

6400K - that's a nice 'daylight', blue-y colour temp that they've got - I would imagine that they suck for lighting the house etc (like all 6400K-ish lamps I've tried myself - they make everything look drab and washed out, and skin tones look awful - they're popular for home lighting in the Far East though, apparently) but they'll do nicely for vegging, keeping mums under etc. thumbsup.gif

would it be a bad idea to swop from a 250w hps back to a 65w energy saver after three weeks from seed
first two weeks 2 seeds where under 2x 24w purple T5
third week under a 250w hps son T plus
i was hoping it would be ok to finish the rest of the vegging with one of these, ,but not to sure about having three diffrent colours thrown at them in veg will they turn hermmi?

also are son t plus lamps ok to veg with or are they a flowering lamp ?

cheers

I'm sure that as long as the amount of light is adequate they will be OK - you might notice a slowing of growth, but if you can wait a bit longer for them to veg to the amount your require, then that'll be fine. wink1.gif

It will not turn them hermie - this happens usually when the plants are stressed by light leaks in their dark phase during flowering, for example.

SON-Ts can be used for all stages of the plant's growth.

Well i just bought one of these in my extreme low budget growroom.. cost as much as the bulb basically, some wood from the garden and some cardboard.. do you think it would be possible to grow under this light right to bud? im not expecting great results but just wondered if it works
