Does that even include your own lake (not that I have one)
act dull, thats what me and oldman used to do, though this was 15 yrs ago

can take your equipment if caught
in scotland you only need a permit to fish on public waters. if you go to a private loch then you pay for your day ticket and thats that.

Takes me back to a day when I turned up on the local river. Had my license a yr one, but was new to it all and didn’t relies it was closed season.
I started getting my stuff out of the car, and one of the river wardens (is that what you call them?) came running up and tried to slap a fine on me.
But like I say id just started to pull stuff from the boot at this time and told the dude “what i'm not fishing just sorting somit out in the boot m8”.
He was adamant and still slapped a fine on me. However I rung the head office and explained I was just sorting my boot out. And luckily got away with it.

Any angler aged 12 years or over, fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England (except the River Tweed), Wales or the Border Esk and its tributaries in Scotland must have an Environment Agency rod licence

I believe in Scotland you don't need a permit for anywhere as long as you can outrun the gamekeeper back to your car while carrying all your stuff.
One of my cousins keeps getting done for poaching (it's actually 'theft of salmon' that he gets charged with), and he says the worst thing about it is that they always drag you back up to the nearest court from which ya get nabbed, which could be something like Dingwall.

You need a rod licence full stop. Then ya need to pay for your day tickets on which ever water to which ever club. Rod licence is £25

99% of waters are private. Whether owned by clubs, syndicates, or land owners letting people fish.
By paying for you rod licence you're contributing to the conservation & management of 99% of UK waterways.

yeah good luck keye nothing like a day on the water. this thread has reminded me i need to pay my rod license again. a friend of mine was shocked to hear that you needed a rod license he asked me why you need one. and i told him its like a gun they dont just give them to everyone you could catch someone

.
ok possibly the most embarrising fishing story i have. when i was about 9 or 10 i was crab fishing with my dad and the family dog. we had caught a few and after unhooking a big crab from the chunk of raw beef on the end of my hook i turned to say something to my dad. when i looked back the dog was scarfing down the piece of beef attached to my line and the barbed hook. needless to say my dad wasnt chuffed at having to pay about £500 worth of vet bills on holiday to have it removed. i have always felt incredibly guilty about it but it is my biggest catch to date weighing something like 2 and a half stone.

What a catch

hope the dog was alright afterwards.
My funny story actually concerns my dad, we were reservoir fishing in a club competition on a really windy sunday afternoon. i was fishing a booby on a Hi D line and my dad was fishing a loomy bug ( looks like a large maggot made from rubber that glows in the dark) on a Hi D line also, during his back cast the wind caught the loomy bug and sent it straight into my dads ear

so after cutting the line off for him we made our way to A&E for him to get it removed. the A&E nurse broke out laughing when she saw it.

ouch my dad was cross about the dog im glad i didnt get his ear

. once went into a and e with at 8 years old with a staple from a staple gun lodged in my thumb i wanted to pull it out my teacher wouldnt let me. so i went to a and e with my mum and they took it out and said next time dont come here.
the dog was fine by the way and lived a long life. she died last year at the age of 17 about 10 years after she was first landed. funny thing is the second largest fish i have landed was a dogfish which was around 10 pounds.
yeah my dad once zipped my lip into the zip of a coat i was wareing whilst fishing bled and hurt for hours

. very funny now not so funny then. rebirth

Fellow fishermen!
So, how did it go?
Great! Not one bite. My brother thought he had a bite but it was a mini-log.
There were trout flipping out of the water but we just couldn't cast that far into the pool. The other bottom feeder/koi/goldfish type things just weren't interested.
We got there about 11ish and there was one other guy at the fly pool, he'd also not done it before. We bought some flies and went down and cracked on with it.
By about 5pm we'd had enough but both my brother and I were getting the hang of casting. Just need sharpening up. We were hitting places we wanted to but had too much line dragging in the water so i think we scared some fish!
At first it was really hot and sunny, t-shirt weather. Then, i felt a slight drip of rain. Well, in 30 seconds you couldn't see much as it bucketed down. Casting was really hard in that weather! 20mins later you couldn't tell it had rained. Then 10 mins after that it bucketed down again. On/Off/On/Off all day. We got soaked even with waterproofs!
It was great, really enjoyed it. I like the involvement of flying, 'cause i'd be a bit bored just sitting there staring at floats and alarms. I think that's why i never fished before. I also like the whole 'Rod, Reel, Fly' 3 piece equipment jobby, the simplicity of the stuff but the complexity of the fishing.
Predatory fishing is cool.
Yes, i really enjoyed it, soaked and bite-less, lost 7 flies in all. The hired rods my brother and his g/f had were pants, really made me appreciate my moms rod and reel that i borrowed. We swapped half way and i lost the ability to cast completely.
I might be going back this weekend or the one after. I like the hunt and the outdoors and, well, everything about it really.
