Going to the dam in August with my uncle just want to know does anyone know if any of the coffeeshops will actually have smoking chambers/areas were cannabis mixed with tobacco can be smoked?
The reason is my uncle will not smoke pure cannabis joints or smoke from a pipe/bong so this smoking ban kinda disrupts why we go the dam on a yearly basis. To be honest i prefare mix joints to pure myself as i tend to over indulge with pure as i cant help smoking them like normal joints.
Also can you possibly smoke mixed joints outside of coffeeshops, either on those with tables outside or just generally like cigarette smokers have to do in uk?
Lastly has anyone tried the tobacco alternatives coffeeshops are supposed to be pushing?

If the weather is fine you can smoke outside the coffee shops, Homegrown Fantasy and Amnesia and some of the others have outdoor seating areas, you have to skin up inside though.

i'm off in a week and i would like to know this as well. my wife does not smoke so she is worried she is going to be bored without having a fag when i have a smoke.

if someone can produce a good list i would really appreciate it.

I was over there not long back and the coffeeshops are going to do different things in order to deal with the new anti-tobacco laws that have just been introduced, as of the 1st of July 2008.
Some coffeeshops are banning smoking altogether such as the Boerejongens (Young Farmers) coffeeshop on Baarsjesweg, others will only allow the smoking of cannabis products i.e. pure joint, pipe, bong, chillum, vapouriser etc.
Also some of the coffeeshops are having alot of renovation work done, or have already had it done in order to section off large areas of the coffeeshop to allow its customers to smoke tobacco in, one thing to note though is that the staff from the coffeeshops will not be allowed into these 'smoking rooms'. I was in Amnesia on the Herengracht a few weeks ago it was having alot of work done to it, also was Sheeba on the Warmoesstraat.

You may come accross 4 different types of stickers in the coffeeshops or displayed in their windows.

1) Geheel rookvrij - 100% Tobacco smoke free.

2) Roken Toegestaan - Smoking allowed.

3) Rookvrij Zone - With a special smoke free section, but still staring the same area for smokers (sectioned off areas for smoking in).

4) Rookvrij Ruimte - With a special seperated room for non smokers.

The new anti-tobacco laws will be strictly enforced with talk of those caught smoking tobacco being slapped with a on the spot E 500 fine pinch.gif .
I hope this helps clear the confusion.

just got back from the dam and amnesia closed on the 1st of july and didnt open again cos i guess they are making a sepereate smoking area. funny people coffeeshop has a smoking area inside. central coffeeshop has banned smoking all together inside so you can only roll inside but most let you smoke pure weed. smoking outdoors is fine as long as the weather is ok.

On the topic of Amsterdam, I was thinking of driving over, 6 or 7 of us in a people carrier and camping for a week to keep costs down.

Just wondering if anyone has had any camping experience in the dam?

Yep just i was camping for the 3rd time at Camping Zeeburg which is the nearest to amsterdam i think but its a 30 mins journey 15 min walking 15 mins on the tram 26 from centraal station. Its a nice campsite but it gets very busy in the summer the toilets and showers are alright, theres also a shop and bar/restaurant bike hire. check on their website. Its a nice campsite but the only one ive been to in Amsterdam.

Vliegenbos is a good campsite.

they have wkd trekker cabins if you dont want to take tents.
also basic cooking facilities.
stayed there with 8 mates bout ten years ago and it was pretty cool.

its in north amsterdam and you need to get a cool ferry across the Ij.

just google vliegenbos cool.gif

hi all,

just spent 4 days in the dam. smoking ban started the day we arrived...

the ONLY coffeeshop i found that had a seperate tobbacco area INSIDE [downstairs only] was the DOLPHINS COFFEESHOP

all others i came across had seating outside for tobacco, with pure weed only inside. this wont be much fun in the colder months!!! please be aware it is illagal to smoke on the street & you could be fined €60 on the spot-this applies to outside coffeshops unfortuantly..

some didnt allow ANY smoking inside what-so-ever!!! pure or not!!

THE ROKERY coffeshops had some sorta herb mix you could put in your spliff instead of tabacco-this herby stuff was FOC

amsterdam will never be the same again

plus they are getting rid of the red light area.....

its all a bit grim..

but on the plus side, i did get stoned to f**k smoking pure spliffs guitar.gif

peace all

there are plenty of safe/secure campsites on the outskirts of amsterdam. make sure you have a train link near the campsite as getting about will be hard otherwise. driving in amsterdam in a bloody nightmare & parking is mega expensive..

to be honest it wont be that cheap driving cos petrol costs so much. it would probably be cheaper to get a cheap £40 return flight & a hotel room for 7 guitar.gif
Jack?
the dolphine is a real nice coffee shop. we spent loads of time in there last time we went.
will be back there in oct smoke.gif

just got back from dam.

you can smoke pure in all coffee shops, some have smoking rooms which u can smoke mixed (green place has a smokin room)
some coffe shops were ok with mixed.was chattin to the guy that runs 420 (brilliant coffeshop brilliant weed) and hes sayin that on average hes calculated that it will cost him 6 euros a day in fines.he says thats ok (if only everyone adopted that attitude)

i was sneaking in some cig in some joints cos i find that you can taste the weed better. strange i know but i bought some white widow (always the 1st smoke) and smoked pure, thought it was alright but nothin special.got back to the hotel room and bashed up a j and the taste was a lot stronger.

your hotel will probably b smoke free. i booked at the tulip inn which didnt state that it was a nonsmoking hotel but when we arrived, signs everywhere.

prices has gone up alot!
Baba Ku
All hotels are now non smoking, as are all restaurants pubs and cafes. That's the point of the whole smoking ban. Just like in the UK smoking is banned in all enclosed public places.
growndome
is that right you can't smoke in hotel rooms anywhere with the smoking ban I hadn't thought of that surely it would be alright no-one is working in there the only people possibly are housekeeping but you are not in there smoking when they are there???

Got back yesterday. You can still get smoking rooms in hotels, i was in the Victoria, 7th floor, smoked spliffs and fags all day long.

Coffeeshops are cool, i was blazing normal joints with baccy in, just keep fag buts out of the ashtray and fag boxes in your pocket. What they dont see they dont care about, and this applies to Barneys, Dampkring & Twede Kamer, Greenhouse, Hunters etc.

Just be subtle, put the baccy in ur grinder with the weed and be quick, dont be obvious.... and dont use much as the blue smoke is a give away. my zoots were 80/20 or 90/10 ratio (baccy being the smaller of the 2!)

I even asked some owners what the score was, its a very "wink wink" attitude. I asked the dealer in one shop, how do i blaze a hash zoot if i cant use baccy, he replied "i never said you couldnt use it!!"

The dutch have a relaxed view on laws, and as with most things, many of them are relaxed on the baccy ban.
just dont hot urself up with fags blatantly.

One guy was like, "keep fags and fag boxes out of sight, and crack on as normal". One other said "if i ask you whats in your joint, tell me its pure weed and its all good"

peace out, enjoy dam.

Im off to the dam tomorrow and I reckon what will hit most is that I can't smoke in my hotel room. this sucks!! I smoke weed but my wife dosn't and I reckon she will not want to be back there again which again sucks. I'm taking some aerosol spray with me so i can deordorise if I need to. I am hoping they hotel staff don't care and as long as I'm not to obvious all be be good and I won't feel any of the effects of the ban.

I think I will draw a list and pin it up as I hit a few shops and i'm there for 5 days toolin around.

Tremont-Salby
whilst i agree that many people don't like tobbacco smoke i do believe in a freedom of choice . Coffeeshops etc,(even pubs everywhere) should have the choice of a ventilated 'baccy smoking area for those with a nicotine addiction
i opened the hostel room window ,put a towel next to the door gap, and just had a couple of cheeky small ones but this was last feb ,before the proper ban and i had fooked lungs so wasn't smoking much anyhoo.
Hope you have a lovely time.

If you feel the need to smoke in the room just have one in the bathroom there are usually extractors in them.
EasyRider
Goddam, you pay for the room, you should be allowed to do as you please once you close the door!

I stayed in Dam in May before the smoking ban. My mate booked the hotel Savoy, it was smoke free (schoolboy error) and was slap bang next to a police station excl.gif !!!

Anyway, a towell over the door with the windows open and your sound. I reckon I OD'd on weed the first night I was there rofl.gif rofl.gif The Hash out there is amazing, lace a few slugs in a booder and my top lip started to sweat--- boooootiful.

My mates are going again tomorrow and I cant afford it cry.gif , and its my B/day on wednesday cry.gif cry.gif

A few hostels have adopted a very "ah fuck it" attitude. My friends got back and actually shared a few joints with the cleaners who knocked on the door!

The posher hotels are prob a lot more strict.

waydee
Was there for new years eve and a few days after, got tired of the shitey hostel I was in and got a room for a couple of nights at a small moroccan owned hotel near leidseplein, just behind the Melkweg.

Asked the girl at reception what the smoking policy was, officially she said they'd introduced a no smoking policy but as long as I was careful not to set off the alarms and smoked near the window they couldn't give a toss. I'd wager a lot of the smaller places have a similar attitude.

growndome
there have always been some hotels that are entirley non smoking.

I was just wondering what the law was regarding smoking in a workplace would a hotel room count as a work place??? I presume not in which case it is happy days to smoke in them. Only arguement I can see is housekeeping have to work in there.

Even in the UK when they brought the smoking ban in did it apply to hotel rooms????

I have always smoked herb in hotels all over the world as long as it was a smoking room. End of the day it doesnt say what you can smoke in it just that you can smoke!!
Baba Ku
Interesting point about hotel rooms not being workplaces, unless of course the cleaners are in, in which case it's their workplace.

The same applies to your own house in Britain if you get burgled mind you, once the burglar sets foot in your house it becomes his workplace and the law requires you to either extinguish your cigarette or go outside while he steals your stuff wink.gif .
