as you can tell im rather P#SSED to say the least my xbox 360 has just died when playing cod4 it started comming up with patterned sqaures so i reset it only to find it flashing 1 red light and sounding like an areoplane!!!!!!! on the screen it says system error and the letter E74 on a black screen just telling me to contact xbox.com/support! does this mean its royaly fuked?

how old is it? its not the ring of death that they extended the warrenty for, its nothing on screen and 3 red rings, i had it a couple of months ago. each ring means a different fault depending on the one lit

you can prob look on line to see what fault your ring means and go from there

cheers for the replies. its just over a year old about 14 months the warrenty ran out on 15.05.08 so thats even more of a kick in the fukin teeth! the light thats lit is the bottom right corner if the console is laying down.

think your going to have too pay or buy new one, if you buy new you just need to buy basic without anything on it.
but i would check out online, theres unofficial sites that do repairs, seen them when mine broke, have a look see if its worth it or what the prob is, you may be able to buy a part and diy


but i play online with loads of lads who`s box`s died after a year. its a lottery too how long they last.

Google e74 xbox, there are loads of threads about this problem on various xbox forums. It's something to do with something called a scaler chip coming loose due to solder overheating.

xbox seem to breakdown alot, most common thing is overheating and the chip comes loose cos the gel they use is crap and they dont put enough on or the mainboard drops out of place, soz to hear that though mate i think microsoft will fix it for arround 100, if uve built pc's before its pretty easy to do urself just got to find out the problem, unlikely ull even need parts, theres loads of forums and websites about it and how to find the problem and then theres step by step guides to follow, hope this helps a little

do not do this, at best its a very short term fix. Its possible its just the AV lead, borrow one of a mate to check or get it repaired professionally.

my old xbox was over 2 years old wen it broke, i sent it back an they fixed it free, it broke again 6 months later and again they repaired it

ive been getting the 3 red lights on my 360 recently but strangely the games still play? But I get the feeling I'm just fucking it up even more by playing it like this, I was thinking about sending it to MS but its been flashed to play copied games so dont know if they would know?

Anyway my brother managed to fix his when he got the 3 red lights, he just changed the X-clamps on the motherboard for some bolts and put some new paste on the processor and that worked, he has no experience doing that stuff like that niether, he just followed a video on youtube....

Yeah, xbox extended there warranty. Microsoft are a big company, they will just come out and collect it if you have all your bits from when you bought it. If they argue jump up and down and moan about the well known red light of death problem that is all over the web and shit. They should sort you out bro.

cheers for replies,but i read on xbox support website they only extend the warrenty on your xbox to 3 years is if it gets the full ring of death and mine only has one red light so its not covered by extended warrenty so now i have to pay £59 to sned it off and get a reapair. its not that much but i dont really see why i should have to fork out because of a hardware problem with their products. after all why would they only give you a shitty 1year warrenty when i spent £450 for i console i would expect it to last more then a year!

xbox's are shite, always breaking down. you wanna get yourself a ps3 lot better

just hardly any decent games on the ps3 and the controllers are awfull aswell

take yourself to www.xbox.com an look in the support section.

that will tell you what each individual red light means and what the different combinations of lights mean.

if you only have one red light its NOT the ring of death, its probably a cable or power supply

reassuring to know that ms have extended warranty to 3 years as i have one that got ring of death 2 days b4 halo3 came out so i bought a new console so i dint have to wait its still in the loft, will have to dig it out an send it back

Fuck that mate, get on the phone to microsoft and get them 2 come and pick it up. Don't listen 2 any shit on the phone, be nice but be vague as to the problem, just keep saying "red ring of death.... the famous m/s red light of death,..... theres alot on the web about this red light problem, isn't that the reason the warranty has gone up to 3 years etc" its their problem with their equipment and they are fully aware of it. They can afford the cost of a replacement and don't want any more bad press. Please, just don't take no for an answer. You bought a microsoft product, it has a microsoft fault and you, being a loyal microsoft customer want it officaly repaired by microsoft. Stick it to em, they should sort you right out mate.

I've had quite a lot of dealings with Microsoft because of my previous jobs and they will normally always do as the customer asks. As frankie said, they dont want bad press, especially about that ring of death thing.

Ayyyeee , a "proper" gaming rig will piss all over ANY console.

My younger brother owns a ps3 a 360 and a 4k AW gaming rig , His AW puts both consoles to shame. I have an aw lappy that shames the 360 ,I do understand though that at the price point of consoles pc's just cant compete.

gates wants cross platform gaming?, yeah right - a control pad can compete for speed and accuracy in something like COD4 against a gaming grade mouse ? not a chance. Not even close.

No shit, its just easier for the normal person(with nornal bank balance) to pick up a playstation and a controller. I work with PC's all day but these guys on COD4 with their keyboards and mice, i can't do it man, i just ain't got the skill. Give me halo 2 or 3 and i'm a pig in shit!!
