im gonna do an outdoor grow in some sandunes on a beach, very secluded almost romantic spot!! What do the people reckon to the outcome?? they will have some soil but main root growth will be into the sand. what yall think all views welcome and if anyone as done a random grow in some random place let me know.. cheers

cant see it working myself recon soon as the roots reaches the sand it will kill your plants.or just a guess as i have had the same thoughts myself but never done it.it would be like watering your plants with sea water but much more stronger as the salt wouldent have been broke down so much. nea.gif

well im hopin that the san shouldnt be salty, its about 40meters from the high tide mark, the patch is surroned by what i think are known as barabas bushes (loads of orange berries and MASSIVE thorns that bring you out in a rash) does anyone know if there salt water tolerant???? if not im fine, if they are.. well......

The sand Will be salty I'm afraid, but why don't you dig decent sized holes in the sand and then plant them in a plastic bag with lots of small drainholes cut at bottom,in a mix of soil, perlite and 'water gel crystals'. They will be able to drain like that but will stop too many roots escaping and drinking salt water which WILL kill them in a few days. The Gel crystals will hold loads of water and will save lots of watering.......Good Luck! JBo@URBN-TRCHMLGY ph34r.gif

cheers for your tips mate i waked them in the other day, if i was usin this as a proper grow i would do that, like the idea of them gel crystals i would have used vermiculite but its vermicushite, but i wana see the ultimate tolerances of the plant. ill wak some pics up asap.

Oi oi, cant get any pics up for some reason, doin my nut in. Got 18 growin down there, 3 regens, pretty good growth at the moment with a bit of yellowin round the bottom leaves, low nitrogen i think (suggestions??). One major problem i didnt think about is the sand!!! the stems on the plants have started gettin sticky and sand has satrted stickin to them, could be a problem on buds wich should appear in about three weeks. Need suggestionns for me sand problem.

Three weeks into flowering, no sand on the buds. . . .yet. but i think i got around it with some bamboo. ended up with 17 females out of 25, not that bad. got about 9 ounces on the 17 plants, wishin there was more nutrient in the friggin sand. easiest grow ever, no mould, no snails/slugs, no probs with drainage or warter shortage!!! Didn even check on them for about a month then went up to the site cut down the males and was well chuffed.
Plus wondered if i could get some help....................................I have no idea what strain im dealin with, buds are very light green with purple viens, they look pretty dence. apart from the plants i topped, they have one main stem with the buds growing off the nodes, no branching. any suggestions helpfull .ta. ill try get a photo up

cheers

Sounds like sea buckthorn to me. The berries are edible, although without any additional sugar, they taste like shit.

If you're plants are only three weeks into flower, the weather might close in on them before the're fully ripe. I think that the salty, ozone rich air might deter any mold in late flower, so you might be ok, if the frosts don't come until the end of october that is.

If sand does become a problem in the bud towards the end, after trimming you can try gently waving each cola under water to dislodge the sand. Even if you can't visibly see any sand in your buds, the're might be quite alot of microscopic sand dust in them, so come harvest time try waving a small branch under water to see if the water becomes more cloudy or if any larger sand particles fall to the bottom. If either happens then you might want to do the whole batch.

You'll probably be fine, it's been wet most of the summer, which would have largely kept the sand and dust down. I'd just check to make sure, after harvesting by waving a small branch in a glass bowl full of water for a couple of minutes.

How are your plants doing now Akuta? I'm curious as to whether the salty, ozone rich sea air has detered mold or not.
