I went over the Kennet after work and was greeted with sight of 25 anglers on a stretch thats less than a mile long and rarely has more than 2 or 3 people on it during weekday evenings. No fish came out all day, hardly surprising as its on private land so its been empty for 3 months then 25 people turn up on mass, they must sense all those people turning up, apparently the whole Kennet was a circus yesterday and hardly any fish reported
I fished for a couple of hours but had nothing, plenty of crayfish taps but no barbs, give it a few weeks to quieten down after the initial early season barrage and it will ok I reckon.
I had a couple of NYCD spliffs and spent the evening enjoying the wildlife, lots of swallows buzzing around the sky feeding off the fly hatch coming off the river, top stuff. Apparently someone in the next swim saw a big pike take a baby mallard off the top, I heard the splash but didn't see it, I did see the parents franticly swimming around looking for it though, it must have been their last surviving chick as there were no more around.
Anyway I don't really care I blanked as got to spend the evening sitting in this lovely swim, they live near that brick wall and its usually a no brainer swim, always get a fish or two out of there.
