A've read good things about this reflector meant to be 1 of the best for light spread, cheers for ur opinion brad

the adjusta wing is a potent reflector mate, id plump for one of those every time!!!!

great coverage plus you are able to get the light REALY close to your plants
Ye out of all them that does look like its the least likely to trap alot of heat under it. Cheers

a should hav done a poll a think

The pro ultra is good but I am biased with the grostar, if you got the height then buy one IMO the grostar mini in none miro is better than the pro ultra
Green dragon has one he will tell you they class

Heya Evans , i got the 2nd one i luv it

The one green sell looks like the bulb is outwith the edges of the reflector so the light dosent reflect down.
Dont understand that .

The Adjusta Wing is kind of OK for places of really limited height but my Diamond gives a better spread then my Adjusta Wings. The Adjusta wing looses too much light from the front and back though to be a really good reflector, I use it in my veg area as height is a really issue there.
Use a Diamond and a Pro Ultralite in the flower room and to be honest it's hard to tell the difference between the two. Possibly the Diamond is slightly better at spreading the light and the Pro Ultralite better at focusing the light down

. However they both do a good job and aren't as big as a GrowStar.

cheers felix, light spread is my main focus so think i'll cancel anythoughts on the adjusta wing.
Which leaves 2 parabolic or Pro ultralite

A suppose a diamond is within budget its only £14 more expensive than the pro ultralite.
Its looking like the parabolic is out the window no one really seems to rate them

I have tried several reflectors and have bought an adjustawing recently.
Have done light readings from it and all are very impressive.
I would certainly reccomend it. I just need to sort the 90 degree bends out thats on my filter and exhaust

lookin good V-man...try attatchin the fan directly to the CF then you got space to have a flowing bend rather than the 90?!

what other reflectors hav u tried the villain?
Did u take light readings from them all?

Dont understand that .

I think he means that it isn't very deep, so the end of the lamp sticks blow the shade, which would mean not as much light is reflected into the shade, meaning crap penetration, thats why the G.star is so deep they really are very very good
181
May 26 2008, 04:17 PM
Ye that was what i was thinking, as in the lamp hangs below the reflector he could well be right actually.
Well so far its looking like the Pro-Ultra Grow Light thats good since its the cheapest to

I'd go with the parabolic everytime
Take a look at the smaller pic,the bulb doesnt stick out at all
If not then the pro ultra
I dont like the diamonds personally

Dam am in 2 minds a dont y but a do like the look of the parabolic n a think in a tent it would be great but then u got the pro ultra which seems to be favoured here.
Dam am so bad at making decisions

Think i'll flip a coin

May 26 2008, 05:02 PM
The pro ultra's and most other shades get red hot and act like a radiator where as the parabolics dissipate heat so well that with the big surface area it never gets even warm

Mmm a think u could hav sold me there on that 1 then cause with the summer coming in heat is a big issue cheers fella decision made parabolic it is

owderb also mentioned them getting hot i thought all reflectors got hot?
I just told you that parabolics dont

I'm using the mini grostar at the mo and its really good oh and doesnt get hot
And when using a parabolic plants DO get close to the shade...smart arse

Ye a got told n hav read u can get them alot closer due to heat bet dissapated out the side cause the bulb sits vertically and they still have great spread due to the size of them.
Has anyone been using a parabolic from greens? are they worth the money?

Just found this:-
"George van Patten's light test on reflectors from around the world (see Gardening Indoors with Lights, page 105), found the Pro-Ultralite gave the most lumens output from a 600w lamp for a 9sq meter area out of all reflectors tested."
Dont suppose anyone has this book?
Am un sure yet again now

Sheriff mate am telling u thats what a feel like doing
Am bloody lost a would like to see that article actually that a was mentioning in that last post be good to see on paper how they all compare, a mean just cause there saying the pro-ultralite gave out most lumens over a 9m sq area that it would be best in a smaller area.
Am getting a sore head now

The build quality on the diamonds is poor, i would say go and look at the reflectors if you can before you buy.
Reckon it'll be some sort of parabolic next for me, maybe even a grostar.

I meant to update this, i chose the parabolic and its a good reflector, does like Owd says heats up alot less a can put ma hand on it no probs where as my old would hav melted ur hand, am finding this is giving me a more even canopy temp no hot spots, also the light spread it amazing.
The only think i'd say is maybe the 1 from greens isn't the best the quality is a bit low, where all the bits meet up and bolt together isn't really a perfect fit but at the end of the day there doesn't appear to be any light getting through as the overlap each other so it does its job, am very impressed with the light spread, even canopy temp and the fact it disperses the heat alot better.
I'd like to try the growstar n see how these are but for the price tag a dont know if they can be that much better than the 1 from greens

but i've yet to see a direct comparison to of the two reflectors working side by side to see whether this is in fact the case.
I am sure OT did something and even he was impressed
They are truly worth their money, I honestly class mine as one of my favourite pieces of equipment, I got big improvements but I was using a cooltube previously, heat dissipation is excellent

I'll try n get pics up but am not up very often as he's got kids and that so trying to get to it without them noticing is difficult

Well it hurts to have to come back to the thread just to say that I got ripped

ok so my light readings were good but, the shade is now twisting and doesn't sit level on chains or ez rollers. I went to my local hydro store and I could tell straight away that the quality of my (spit) copy was nowhere near as rigid as the original adjustawing.
So back to the drawing board

I do love a challenge. I am going to go back to my old shade until I decide on a replacement and was wondering if anyone had used or had heard of any reports on this particular shade
