Hi folks, I bought myself some cheap uv protection glasses from ebay trouble is my eyes still hurt after going in my grow room, does anyone know where to obtain some decent glasses for protection against the 1200w bulbs.

It states on them that they are 100% uv protection yet my eyes still hurt, whadda you folks use and are they any good?

Eyes hurt like mad. pinch.gif

Hoping iv put this in right section as it relates to lights, not sure.

Grow lamps don't emit much UV.....do they?

It's the light you can see that is hurting your eyes...........you need something that polarises the light to stop as much of it reaching your retina.

I've read loads of tests about UV glasses - even the cheapy low budget from-a-vending-machine-by-the-toilets-in-the-back-of-Wilkinsons are only parts of a percentage different to the likes of Oakley et al.

So yeah, it's probably something else. Polarised glasses are cool and worth a check.

Do a search for UVEX or Bolle, they both do good UV tinted safety glasses for under a tenner

No idea matey, I take it they don't lol.gif?

They don't over long distances but the sheer intensity close up is no good for your eyes. These things are for mounting up in high ceilings like sports halls and stuff, not for being within half a metre of your eyeballs, so some eye protection is a good idea. thumbsup.gif

i very rarely go in my grow with the lights on, have a green worklight rigged up & do all my watering/adjustments with the lights off, used to get really bad headaches when i used to go in there with lights on.

I have both and the Bolle are more comfortable, more like a normal pair of sunglasses but they both stop the same range of wavelengths. Think I got mine from Safety Supplies or something like that.

Just ordered two pairs, twenty quid for bolle and 15 quid for polarised.

First pair is New Bolle’s Tinted protective glasses
Offer excellent eye protection but tinted for bright sunlight. This is one of the best pairs of low tint glasses I have personally used, i continue to use them all year round. Low sunlight can be a problem in summer or in winter conditions. Clear vision in sunlight without impacting vision.
Especially good when turning to look over the shoulder when vision is critical. Lower part of lenses are frameless so offering uninterrupted vision.

A must for this summer & winter low sun conditions.

Technical
Lenses are tinted and offer excellent all round vison
Clear nose pads multi position
Tinted lenses
Impact resistant 5-2.5 IF CE

Second pair

it's the same situation as when people get headaches from fluorescents/office lighting, the frequency of the arc flickering on and off in the lamp is just on the border of the reach of human perception and gives some people headaches, in offices they get round this by connecting the fixtures in rows that alternate the phases that supply the power to the lamps, (red, yellow, blue, red, yellow, blue) this essentially raises the the on off flickers per second out of the range of perception. in domestic supplies we only have single phase, so you're a bit screwed if you're sensitive to it. no type of sunglasses will remove the flicker of the lamps. although it's still not good too have your eyes near such intense light, so still get yourself some sunglasses

This is something I have been a tad worried about.. In summer you rarely see me without sunglasses during the day as even short exposure to direct sunlight gives me a piercing headache. My dad is the same.. photosensitive I guess.. I had been considering getting a pair of sunbed goggles but will look at these instead.. muchas grassy-arse smile.gif
