nl x haze is ok plant

Well Sensi do NL and Sagmartha do a northern lights, then there is Oasis from Dutch Passion which is a NL too, choices choices eh!

Nl*Haze is a lovely smoke, wasn't particulary hazey in flavour (when i've smoked it) rather more lemony. Was a cracking high though from what i remember.

I've been told by someone who's grown out Atomic Norther Lights (dr atomics) that it's a cracker, quite fancy giving it a go.

I always thourt northen lights was an indica but most of the ones ive checked are all sativa

Now this could be an interesting thread. As far as Im aware the northern lights original strains went from NL 1-9,Neville bringing them from north American growers?Apart from sensis NL I havent done any of the others.I notice any mention seems to be of NL NL2 NL5 NL9 Anyone have any comments on the missing 34678 NLs or were they breeder only? Good thread wink.gif 908

Also NL5xHaze is not related to this thread really. It was only part northern lights like many dutch strains of that era bit of a building block in dutch ibls the ol NL. 908

No, just not good enough plants to become a mother.

snadge

I think Oasis is NL#2 and is very indica, extremely potent.

FMS use NL#5 in their Nevilles haze crosses, I think the #5 is the most popular from the amount it is used in crosses in all seedbanks.

Funny though how some dude grew 10 plants and the #5 was the best and so = NL#5

I wonder if some people think all these #'s come from the same batch of 10 plants, lol.gif

HGF do a nice NL wink.gif

Sorry for my ignorance but What batch of 10 and all what crosses.Another point it doesnt mean no.5 was the best it may just have traits that bred well with haze, not saying it wasnt the best mind you.

I have 2 completely different NL clones that I call original NL and new NL , cos thats the order in which I was given them.
I would presume that they are from different seed banks, the original a very fruity lanky indica, not much to look at on the plant, but once cut and cured can be smelt from a hundred metres away. Where as the new NL is almost odourless and very very strong, both keepers in their own right but geneticaly miles apart. It would be nice to know which seed bank they are from... smile.gif

Fruity lanky indica wub.gif and an odourless very very strong one.Clear to see why there keepers. wink.gif 908
Red Eye Knight
explanation i have heard is that it was a single clone brought to holland and was crossed with afghani, haze and skunk,

Thats probably this explanation.
The Genetics of Northern Lights is one of the most confused of all existing cannabis strains because there is no one who can take entire credit for its creation. Northern Lights was developed as an indoor seed Strain in the late 1970s near Seattle in Washington, although the Genetics involved in the cross were known to have come from California – the original home of a great many of the most famous cannabis strains. It was initially a stabilised cannabis sativa Strain crossed with an Afghani indica Hybrid,Northern Lights travelled to Holland as a clone where it was introduced to the commercial cannabis seed market in 1985.

Heres some more on it.
I got familiar with the Northern lights family (originally said to be from the Pacific Northwest) back in the 1980's when Nevil's Seed Bank offered the whole lineup. The original Northern Lights family is genetically diverse.

Northern Lights 1 was a single stalked, compact plant with a moderate Afghani smell. No one offers this classic version at this time. A strong plant and buzz.

Northern Lights 2 was a sturdy, pine tree shaped with a musty and piney odor. Dutch Passion (Oasis) and THSeeds (Closet Queen) currently offer versions.

Northern Lights 2 X 5 from The Seed Bank was very bushy and resinous with a strong juniper berry smell. A truly remarkable hybrid not offered by anyone.

Northern Lights 5 is available from BCSC for $75, a variety Nevil of The Seed Bank said was only available pure as a cutting. It is likely hybridized at one point.

Northern Lights 9 X 5 "disappeared" when Nevil sold his genetics to Sensi Seeds. This is the only original Northern Lights 9 genetics source to my knowledge.

These are the original Northern Lights breeding lines from which today's versions arose. Sensi Seed Bank sells Northern Lights with no number attached. Having access to Nevil's original genetics, my guess is that they crossed an Northern Lights 1 male to their Northern Lights 5 mother and stabilized the results. Northern Lights Special is a hybrid from KC Brains in Holland of Sensi's Northern Lights crossed to a Haze female. Northern Lights 9 was only sold in seed form as a hybrid to the Northern Lights 5 mother plant by Nevil at The Seed Bank during the late 1980's. Sagarmatha receives a lot of their strains delivered to them as a finished product from outside breeders. It is possible that someone produced these seeds. The known fact of a Northern Lights 9 male existing meant purebred seed should have been possible to produce, unless it was a male only strain. Trichome Technologies has a strain named Northern Lights 6, another related family member

northern lights partly went extinct because of ignorant growers.
at 17 hours daylight , northernlights starts to flower ( althouggh slightly sometimes..however its not in pure veg anymore)
when vegged at 18 hours daylength, and stressed due to cramped roots, northernlights will start stratching more , and eventually get very stressed.

after several generations , the noticeable difference in vigour made NL a forgotten player in the cutting business, and it just died.

if vegged with supplemental light ( fluoro tubes when hps light off) or simply with 20 hours hps a day, its veg wouldnt show tendency to flowering like it does at 18 hours.

when ur not sure bout the internal clock of a cutting , place at 24 hours light , and take cutting, repeat twice ( under 24 hours) and the newest produced cutting will show renewd vigour, better veg , faster flowering , and generally better yield and pest resistance.

northen lights is the typical example how the cannabis community lost strains through lack of knowledge.

if i remeber well , either NL#2 or NL#5 was virtually odor free( especially for a plant with indica buzz and stature).
dr don

there was two nice nl phenos back in the early 90s. both from sensi seeds one was a very lime green colored bud with dark chocolate colored resin tasting of nice mazar-i hash. Not seen that one since then, any one know if it still around?.

I do have a 90s sensi seeds nl haze mother that originated from Exodus and i believe its being kept going by many and is called psychosis now,

This nl haze pheno is not available from sensi seeds anymore.

Of all the nls and nl hazes ive tried all have been different so what best or not i guess goes down to personal taste..

I imagine the nearest to the original thing ( if any one knows what that is anymore) are probably the ones sold by USA and Canadian seedbanks..

good luck in your search

Living in the Pacific Northwest of the US, I gotta say that Northern Lights is definately a phenom. Dr. Atmoic sells a very good strain, you could try Joey Weed too. All grow a NL strain that is commendable. good luck.. I'd like to see a diary when you find the right seeds!

Homegrowns Northern Light is superior for a pure NL strain.

100% Afghanica/Indica strain, short and bushy, bug yield and wonderfull taste.

Tried it and love it.
