Full Version: 600W Bulb in a 400W Ballast.

I was forced to dismantle my grow room the other day, (long story, don't ask), when I noticed something.

Last year I purchased a Lumatek 400w digi ballast, bulb and shade and didn't notice that they had supplied me with a 600W Grolux lamp.
Both lamp and ballast have been functioning together for about 6 months now without any adverse effects.

Can I carry on regardless or should I buy a 400W bulb?
Does anybody know if the bulb will damage the ballast long term?
Is this a really inefficient electricity use?

Any advise would be most welcome.

ah, digi ballasts are a different ball game, they should be designed to not put out more than a specified amount of current so should cope better, although the ballast will be working it's nuts off, so get the right lamp in there
