Hey all, got some seedlings in 8cm pots on my windowsill, theyve been there a few weeks now, weekend after next I'm gonna put them in the final pots and was wondering what soil to use? Its just I was in Wilkinsons earlier today and saw some John Innes No.3 soil for about £2.75 per 10 litres, also saw some cheap soil in B&Q, I was wondering if these types of soil are worth using, or should I just stop being tight and spend the extra on some Canna or Bio-Bizz?

thanks

ive always gone for the cheaper sort from garden centers ect, all the above are great examples, alot of ppl go for john innes or westlands but cant be much diffrence. ive used allmix once and battled nutrient probs all the way through although i wasnt using biobizz nutes so may have been the problem. i think its personal prefrence, good luck m8 wink.gif

It's a reduced peat formula.....you tell me one compost with no peat thats any good for growing herb unsure.gif

westlands or westlands+, there's 2 lol.gif

I agree peats one of the best things u can use to grow anything, but I dont think my high is worth it.

one more quick question, will i need to use nutes with b&q (or j. arthur bowers...etc) soil, i do i just use water?

thanks

You should pot the plants up into gradually bigger pots as they root out their existing ones, using fresh compost - in this way, you shouldn't need to start feeding them until they're a couple of weeks into flower in their final pots.

As Scribble says, pot ups supply new nutrients, any compost will need it, doesn't matter how cheap or expensive it is.
Cannabis is a hungry plant, no composts nutes would last all the way through the flowering cycle.

Start them in tiny pots or root cubes then go to say 1 litre pots then 3 litre and then 6.5ltrs say.....some people might pot up again to a bigger pot, but most people settle for 6.5s

John Innes No3 - At B&Q- 20L = 3.75
It came top in the 'Which' soil debate I saw posted on here a few weeks ago.

P.s, If u only have a few u wouldnt need a 70L bag would you? lol.gif

I find the Westlands Advance+ very good. It also scored very well in this years Which compost trials. For those who want a peat free compost they do a peat free version. But be warned, it scored badly in the same Which trials.

I'd steer clear of the Westland MP with added JI as a lot of us have had problems with the newer formulation.
