Hey folks.

Any advise on the following would be most appreciated.

First time grower looking to grow enough to not have to buy from someone else smile.gif

I have a shed in the garden which I am thinking of putting a grow tent into. I am thinking of the Budbox Small or the Dark Room DR60 - which would you recommend? I am likely to go the NFT route with a small 250W light, etc.

Anything I should be keeping in mind before I go ahead with this? Any of you experienced growers think this idea sucks? Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks smile.gif

Dammit!!! How the heck did I get this in the wrong forum!!

Sorry mods - can someone move this to the correct forum? Thanks.

Isn't the Budbox small just for mums and cuts??
Bit too small to finish in there!

Heats gonna be a major problem for you but there are ways around this. Cold in winter, blistering in summer, I hope its a big shed? If you can build a room within the shed with insulting material you may just get away with it.

Is the shed in good shape? is it on a concrete/cement slab, or is it up on blocks?

E2A: What kinda of power is running to it, or is there any present?

id also recommend growing in compost for your first effort mate, much more forgiving than hydro wink.gif

Probably be able to avoid other biological problem too that Hydro can be unforgiving with, as your doing this in a shed...thumbsup.gif

Thanks for all the replies.

It is about 2.5-3m x 2m x 2m

Good idea although I would prefer not to have to do this ...

Shed is in OK shape - it is a sturdy well built shed which has been left to stand. I will need to repair a small hole in the bottom of the door and block out the small window. It is an all wood shed on blocks - no concrete or cement in the construction at all.

None present at the moment. It is directly outside my kitchen door and I am thinking of running a extension lead with a plug top on - then plug this into a kitchen socket with a trailing socket in the shed (going through an rcd adapter). Or, I am prepared to get a sparky in.

OK thanks. I see I am going have to think about this one a bit more ...

you're gonna want to put someting around the base of the shed to keep out drafts and critters... does it smell moldy in there? that's really what I'm trying to get at with all these post... Sheds can be a great place to setup if done properly, and that doesn't necessarily mean expensive... I'm planning on setting up a flower room in mine, but have decided to scrap the shed I got and build a new one... Currently a squirrel is living in it rofl.gif

So first things first get the shed sorted, but if it appears to be ravaged by intrusions from the outside molds, spores, fungus critters you may wanna look elsewhere to setup as the tent your gonna use will creat an environment that all of these things love, but your plants won't like it one bit...
podgy
your electric is something better left to the pros... specially if your going to use HID lighting.. I would suspect you would need more than an extension chord to power lights and everything else needed to control the environment... and another reason here to go soil over hydro.. less plugs are needed.. thumbsup.gif

i agree, get a sparky in, i need 5/6 sockets,
1.lamp
2.fan
3.osc fan
4.heater(winter) or humidifier(summer)
5/6.contactor unsure.gif stoned.gif
tell him you want 3 double sockets cos your gonna put a washing machine/tumble/ freezer in there and it'll be handy, while he's there, to add a couple more for the garden etc. he wont give a shit how many sockets you put in there, more cash for him, not much but a bit more.

Yup it is moldy and stuff - I was thinking of disinfecting it because it reeks of cat spray, etc.

That sucks. Shed is, I think, my only option. I have a cupboard under the stairs in my flat but I do not know how or if it possible to get air in / out of it.

This is not looking promising sad.gif

Excellent info / advice! Thanks.

Bah this growing in a tent in the shed is looking increasingly unlikely sad.gif

What if I made a wardrobe to put in the shed - would that solve some of the problems?

Don't go giving up on us before you break ground now... No matter where you decide to grow there are gonna be hurrdles and hoops to jump through.... get the shed sealed up and bomb it with sulphur.. Understand this too it'll take awhile before you get everything sorted to the point that you'll be comfortable with it.. I've been working on mine for almost a year now, and I still got lots and lots to do... It's always a work in progress, and even the best of the best have their weaknesses... Just remeber when you get into this if you feel like your spending too much time on it think about all the time you've spent looking for weed in a dry spell.. That normally puts me back into high gear...

You just gave me some starting info on my next question! I'll start googling sealing up a shed and pay a visit to the DIY store on the weekend.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Top bloke you are podgy. Nice one smile.gif

ive been thinking of doing the same but using 1 of those metal sheds in b&q ect. ive already got a budbox with 140cm headroom and does get cramped and hot without cold air intake and fans, id go for the darkroom 80 i belive its 160cm tall for £10-15 more. ideally go for the biggest u can but darkroom seem alot better quality than bud boxes, good luck mate

love this site..... i got a concrete shed and once ive finished writing this i,m off out to empty it . keep posting people theres more than one novice reading this forum with his mouth watering lol.gif. round my area though i heard a lot of talk of the local copper chopper flying round with the infra red camera looking for warm roofs . watch yourselves. my sheds roof is made out of a type of asbestos , dates back to the war.... i'm counting on this ,
Jim_jim
Just line you shed with insulation, not only will it keep the heat in, it will also keep the cold out in winter making it a lot easier or you to control your environment inside the shed

Insulation is great, but if it gets wet or damp it becomes a culture dish for mold and other nastiness plants don't like...

unless you running an arseload of HID lights you shouldn't have to worry about it at all...

WOW lots of replies here - brilliant!

I do not have the time to respond or even think about this right now. I'll be back on the weekend with more.

Big thanks everyone!

So I have decided on a few changes:

1. Upgrading to the Dark Room DR80 grow tent (80cm x 80cm x 160cm) for flowering.
2. Upgrading to a 450w HID light.
3. Intake and extractor going to the outside of the shed. 25cm intake with a 12.5cm extractor. Am thinking this will save on having an intake fan. Good idea?
4. Going to go for compost/soil and pots rather than hydro NFT system.

AND

5. Going to make a veggie/mother drobe - also to be kept in the shed. Use CFL lights for this - details pending ...
