hi smile.gif

so i finally replaced my piece of shit home box and solemly swore never again, unless i get an attic or a brain hemorrhage. whatever comes first...

after many empty months of praying to the god of second-hand ikea furniture for a bloom sized drobe, to no avail, i conceded to the god of first hand ikea furniture and parted with about 70 squid to purchase a squeaky clean new kullen wardrobe:

tah-dah! the intake is behind the drawers, the extract goes into the smaller cupboard which has holes drilled into the back and top for venting. the layer of cotton is to quieten the rush of air a bit, and it works!

those little black and white things infront of the cotton are my new pot covers, drying after a wash. no one ask whatever happend to the home box... whistling.gif

the extraction fan is boxed in what used to be the death cab, with a found foam front. the ballast is on some wooden blocks to keep it cooler, the ducting is wrapped in underlay for sound dampening. again, quite effective, and cheap.:

inside its carpeted and hung with bungees, but has a little bit of polystyrene support...

the intake/drawer area is carpeted and the fan is in its original box, stuffed with underlay and bubblewrap, sponge blocks bellow and above, sandwiching the fan into a non-vibrating stasis. sweet.

the drawers are held in by a crude frame, filled out with more found foam and a little left over carpet for added muffling.

Nice work tsk, you've done yourself proud thumbsup.gif

great work mate you must be well pleased with yourself. I recently bought a tent coz I thought I was a DIY mongo but now wish i would have taken a bit longer to do something bit more professional like this. you have done really well here mate I hope after a few grows in my tent I am keen enough to knock up something like this.

couple of questions where do your intake and extraction go after they have gone through those padded sections?? are they going off to different rooms/loft/window etc??

really impressed tho like the way u have somewhere to keep all your bits too ph34r.gif

think u deserve a massive spliff.gif spliff.gif

cheers twenty three, though its no success till buds have been chopped from it, i appreciate all appreciation smile.gif cheers.gif

the intake and removable waterproof bottom design, quite literally taken from the home box...

as you can see ive framed the whole inside with wood layerd in half white half black gaffa tape. attatched to this is a sheet of homebox with a velcro attatchment, stapled to both wood and sheet for permanent placement. notches were cut to accommodate the hinges, then black gaffaed up. id say its 98% light tight, and soon to be 100%.

but where does the intake come from, i hear no one ask...

what are these innocent looking cabinets next to the drobe?

the extraction blows out into the space above where all my bits are kept. its not very clear, ill take a pic in a wee while. its all in the smae room. the intake comes in via a light baffle cab, into the veg cab, through into the main drobe. i thought this was quite smart but the added temp of the CFL pumps up the bloom room by a good couple of degrees C. been better since i taped up some of the holes in my intake/extract ducting, but its a concern for the summer...

cheers skunkyone cheers.gif yes and no. it makes the bits it covers much, much quieter. i cant hear my fans at all. dosent change my filter from whooshing like a fucking boeing convention though sad.gif and my extraction isnt exactly noisless, but the setup is MUCH quieter than my previous tent. its only air rush noise really...

note the home made hook hole on the lamp holder...

the veg box is a C or two lower than ambient room temp, and about 6 or 7 lower than the bloom box. keeping it at 21C results in the ambient rtoom temp at 23C, the bloom box at 26C pot level and 29C at canopy. co,e the summer thats the gig fucked and its time to down grade to a 250. its my 400 thats in there now, but in a few months itll have to go...

heres a shot from the end of the intake baffle

insect screened to keep out the peskys

and thats about it, leaving only the old veg cab

an all purpose "other" cab for clones, seedlings, breeding, mums whatever. partys, weddings etc etc...

¿Have you tried running your CF with a dust-sleeve on it, Tsk? That might help some with the 'whooshing' of the air movement. thumbsup.gif

e²a: I love the 'modular' construction of your grow setup - it's quite similar to a system that I was toying with the idea of - using different cabinets and spaces and attaching them all together to take advantage of a single ventilation system. wink1.gif

Whats yo beef with HomeBoxes?

Easily the best of all the grow tents if you ask me. Had a bud box which was a piece of shite - but no issues with the HomeBox as yet! Anything I should know as I'm busy recommending them to a mate?!

cheers mate, i like things to link smile.gif i think a 160 out take would be better for the 400 in this space. will have to drop down if i wanna keep a grow on in the summer, but now its just in the realms of alright. dunno how that will change with more plants in there...

fucking HUGE, black, ominous, fragile, dust magnet, floppy sides you cant clean properly for fear of collapsing the whole fucking thing,, far far away from light proof, zips not waterproofed so start to rot, velcro not in the right places and some places there is no reason for it being etc etc.

smile.gif

sjust personal preference mate. i dont like em for stated reasons. if you got no beef with them then cool. but they aint for me. making pot covers out of my homebox felt like good usage lol.gif

I thought of this idea a few days ago, linking the two boxes together to combine one fan to ventilate both spaces. It's a bloody good idea methinks. I also think your temperature issues could be helped by having the lights on in the cooler night time. It's going to be a problem for me, too, as the room i'm to be doing a similar setup in gets REALLY hot (~100f) in summer - the sun shines through the large window almost all day. It's so bad i have considered an air conditioner for the last few years, with no grow on, so i'll be needing one - luckily there are places really good ac's can be got for £120-170 online.

Have you been in the DIY KIT forum recently? there's a really good sound baffle idea in there which i think would quiet down your grow significantly. Other than that, i like your growdrobe- love the whole growdrobe idea in fact but yours looks pretty nice
THC4METOO
Welcome to the wonderful world of drobery my friend, I'm sure you'll find it far more comfortable than camping guitar.gif .

My mum came for a visit and unexpectedly walked straight into the room where my drobe is and had no idea what was going on. If I'd had a tent in there at the time I don't think I'd of got away with saying I was testing my new camping toilet.

I love what you've done with the extra rooms btw, very 70's in its pod-like design. Maybe you could get some flock wallpaper in there instead of mylar and purple velvet curtains to complete the whole look.

Lovely work chief.. most impressive yahoo.gif

Did you go for the blue peter job but they said you were overqualified?

No thats a DIY prog I'd watch... building growdrobes with tsk guitar.gif

Yeah a very nice stealth drobe, Wish I had the extra compartments in mine to stick the fans and stuff in.

Does the cotton wool not slow yor extraction down a lot??

I have been planning my layout ,, and thats exactly how I plan to do mine. You did a excellent fuckin job. Nice, very nice.

thanks for all the interest and comments smile.gif

newbudda - cheers.gif

wassabi - yer plan sounds sound, and if i had a dark place or a brain dysfunction id do the same thing lol.gif sorry if my drobe expands yer plans, but not that sorry wink1.gif

DougalTheDingo - thanks mate, the lights do go on at night and for the past week the (canopy level) temp has touched 30 briefly but average 28 with lights on, which is all right. thanks for the baffle suggestion, but im pretty happy with it right now.

THC4METOO - biggrin.gif cheers bud, im sure glad to leave my tenting days behind and get a solid gaff for me concubines. funny, we had people staying for the weekend and they came into the room and were more impressed by my tool wall than any noise from my drobe. then the lass seen the big book called "HASHISH" on my table, and clocked me a look - "Are you growing weed" and i smiled biggrin.gif
turns out her mum got busted with five outdoor plants last year sad.gif didnt get sent down but lost "5 enormous plants, like trees..." all the more reason for staying indoors...

withnail - thanks mate, i was sadly under qualified for the blue peter presenter job, as my illegal drug diet consists solely of cannabis... whistling.gif

Jim_jim
- thank you sir, the cotton wool may have been slowing down extraction, but its mostly gone now. i tore out the pipe and put most of the cotton behind the drobe. not silent, but temps have been reasonable (though so has the weather)

scoobs
- cheers m'lady, if my closet hacking can provide but a glimmer of inspiration, then that aint 'alf bad in my books. if i ever get the build-a-grow-show syndicated, ill let you know wink1.gif

DarkAngel3030 - thank you very much indeed. cheers.gif

CLAR1TY
- lol.gif @ your "kullen" experience. 10 oz from that space? alright! thanks for your concerns, but humidity aint much of a worry for me, my rooms not dissimilar to a nuns beaver, if you follow me whistling.gif the clear plastic thing to join them i never considered using, and all the edges were sealed with gaffa tape inside and out where applicable. i already got a plastic bottom under them, even gave it velcro fastenings not unlike the homebox. appreciate the consideration though bro. now go get an avvie and remeber to notify people if you intend changing it... wink1.gif

the drobes been running, as mentioned above, at around 28. the difficulty was getting the temp in the veg cab up whilst keeping the flower drobe down. i replaced the fly screen intake filter with some of that hoover dust filter material, the almost spongy stuff and this slowed the air flow down a little, enough to raise the temps by about 2 degrees, so average temp in there is 22.C during the day and the bloom drobe is 24 in the dark.

the veg cab lights switch off as the flower room lights up at 9pm. this keeps the drobe cooler during the busy part of the evening when im active in the room. once i leave and the night wares on the ambient temp drops, the veg room hovering around 19.C-ish until 3am when it pops back on and warms the plants through the coldest part of the evening. the bloom room usually sits at its highest temps round these times, but aslong as the ambient temp is bellow 25 theres no problems. the rooms just starting to heat up at 9am when the flower room goes to bed and decent temps are maintained.

the current occupants dont seem to mind the stay, shall post a pic or two in the diary soon. need batterys or a lense or some film or something. need to find a pen, write a list...

cheers.gif
DreadVik
Looks over good smile.gif

I was tempted by something like this but I didn't want to lose space as I currently have a BudBoxXL and a second room about 1.5m x 0.7m. Your linking idea seems nice though as it wouldn't look unusual to have two drobes of your size side by side in a double bedroom especially with my passion for clothes and I think this would allow me to equal the output of my BudBoxXL which as you say does look a tad large and bait in a room but smaller than the XL and i had capacity issues wink1.gif. My smaller space thinking about it is about as stealth as you can get bar one hose i trail out to bring in fresher air during the warm months (if i had my way this would go up the chimney stack but that means two big scary holes to be bored)

Your sound dampening is very interesting and deffo something I'm gonna look at for silencing my extraction systems as RVK in a room is ok and not too noisy compared to my desktop PC but in a tent it's taking the piss and I can't even manage to sleep in that room unless I've overdone the papaya wink1.gif
Blayz'd
I like that. Nice one tsk, good work mate. Impressive. wink1.gif
jammiejoe
Inspirational wink.gif
tsk
cheers y'all

DreadVik - thanks mate, i feel a smidgen smug with myself for the linking them together intake thing, but not that much. i think a 150 for extract and the 125L for intake would be perfect for this set up all year long, able to handle the heat of a 400 hundred and the summer with no problems. right now it gets a tad too hot on the hotter days if im not about to open windows and turn on fans in the room. ive got an emergency 250w ballast sitting in reserve in case of serious heatwave.

sound issue - i could have put more work into dampening the air noise, but i got lazy... stoned.gif its far from silent, but i reckon it could come damn close with some tweaking wink1.gif and its still much quieter than the tent, which i could hear in the other room. the drobe i cant. (my little extra cab with the bathroom extractor is another matter...) g'luck with whatever you choose thumbsup.gif

Blayz'd - cheers bigears, glad you like 'er cheers.gif

jammiejoe - thank you! smile.gif

shes been on 12/12 since the last monday in april (38 days) and currently looks a little some thing like this:

ive been aiming for some kind of perpetual harvest and am testing out what the best methods would be to maximise the space. i thought originally that 20cm pots would be the way to go, working them into a SOG, but dont think building a sog up in stages is really the best way to do it...

but this is diary chat...

SaintSinner
Love the drobe design (and the results smile.gif ) I'm just about to pick up a Kullen for the same reason camping is just not so much with the stealth ;-)

Downside (?) is I'm going to have to figure out a way to use the existing equipment I have in the small space... (600W cool tube light with an AF100 (325M3/hr) fan + carbon filter working as air cooling and to remove any stink.) It's a winter only project, so perhaps I'll get away with 600W in such a small space without toasting the girls.

SaintSinner
In case anyone else is looking to do drobe-fu on this drobe, here are the internal dimensions for the "main" part.

79 cm wide
49 CM deep (same for all sections)
142cm tall

So, a cool tube isn't exactly a good fit (with a 6"/150mm fan it *might* work if you exhaust directly out the side (and if you don't mind having pretty much a spotlight shining out of the closet ;-) ) , with a 4"/100mm fan and the required adaptors you're SOL. With the cooltube directly pressed against one side, you have 30cm before the dividing wall. It also doesn't look like it will fit (depth wise) a number of reflectors including a 2 enviro one... (50CM wide) well, without a little reshaping of the reflector. Ponder ponder....

Anyways, just in case anyone needed to know how big the main segment is smile.gif

I'm now even more impressed with your design, suspect I'll do the envirolight method, now if I could just figure out what to do with my 600W cooltube setup and new bulb....

Hey guys,

I know this thread is rather old but...

Probably nobody remembers me but I used to hang about these forums 5 years or so ago! Anyway... fast forward...
I now live in Holland in the land of 'decriminalization' and cops not really giving a fook and leaving us alone!

Anyway, reason I am back is I am a 20 something student and cant reeeeally afford my local coffeeshop as much as I would like to so... you guessed it... another hack at growing!

I’ve done my research and 5 plants seems to be the semi-legal limit before the cops take me seriously so I am guna have to put a max of 5 plants on my grow. Apparently if you don’t use sunlight, the cops CAN screw you if they want to anyways but ah well, it’s got to be safer than merry old England!

I have just purchased an Ikea Kullen as a wardrobe for surprisingly.. clothes! But I have convinced my fiancé that the left part (where you hang stuff up) is not needed and she should allow me to grow there so green light! I maaay be able to expand into the other areas of the wardrobe if she gets used to the idea but for now it’s the main bit only!

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20093060 <<the beast

My questions are as follows:

Which breed should I go for considering the 5 plant limit (I know that’s probably a push inside a cupboard anyway!) to get max yield of something with a good strength and minimal couch lock? Also I want to minimize smell and keep the plants within the dimensions of the left (main) compartment. Also being able to mail order it within NL instead of trekking to Amsterdam is a bonus! I was thinking:

5 Lowryder #2 x AK47 Feminised Seeds (I know I’m bound to get a herm or two but I can live with just the 3 or 4 girls)
I’ve seen some good grow diaries with this, excellent yield and don’t take up too much space? I am also a bit… stupid… sometimes and I know something that requires strict 12/12 to flower will get fooked up by me opening the doors at the wrong time and waking em up! Also, I want to be able to go away in summer (rapidly approaching) so a 2 month first grow would be ideal!

Can I get away with 5 plants in there or is it best to go with 3 bigger ones or something?

Whats the best light as to not have to go mad with ducting etc? Could I get a decent yield off a home construction of 10 x high wattage energy savers on a frame etc?

Should I repost this as a new thread on the help forums?

Also, as a footnote, I want to go stealth as possible because I want to avoid any questions with my landlord (a cool guy who wouldn’t care so much but rather avoid him knowing and bringing his mates in to see!) or my nosy family who will stay over once in a while!

Thanks in advance guys,

Hashhead!

p.s. If you want more details, im ready and waiting! Im sure to have some more stupid questions and a newbie grow diary as soon as I get started! biggrin.gif

Sorry to ressurect this thread but, I'm sort of glad to see you also have a centimetre-wide gap between the two doors. I just built one this afternoon except I've cut a huge hole in the divider between the two sections in order to use the entire space. Every photo I've seen of the Kullen has the same big gap - except for Ikea's stock photo rofl.gif
