im gutted my ps3 died last night , tried countless times to turn it on , but to avail , the light comes on then it beeps turns red and then turns off ,


anyone else had this problem

Hi ministerofmunchi i googled your problem and came up with this.

question that was asked = My PS3 got the red light error and no longer stays booted for more than 5 secs before turning off and the light turns yellow then starts blinking red. so 2 questions:
1: what does the red light mean and is there any way I can figure out what precisely is going wrong (i know like everything about computers so don't be afraid to say anything overly-technical)


Answer = the prob could be 2 things. I work at a store and me and my buddy do 360 and ps3 repairs cheaper then sony's $150 dollar repair. First once u turn on the console from standby the front should have a solid green light. (take all discs out). If the light keeps blinking and u cant get 2 your main menu ( the one with options like games movies etc.) Then that indicates that your system is experiencing a hardware failure. Turn the console off by holding the front for 10 seconds. once the console is on standby by turn it off from the back.
disconnect all cords from the ps3. On the end with stickers there should be a little rectangle box to open and get your hard drive ( read the manual and remove the HDD). Once the Hdd is out reconnect all wires. turn the ps3 back on manually and hold the on button(in front) until u here 2 beeps. If u still cant see your dashboard or menu then the ps3 console it self has a system failure. if u can see the dashboard then the hdd has a failure in it. If it is the hdd just replace it with a computer(laptop hdd) hdd.

ar cool i have a ps3 and this is the first i heard of problem, glad its bein fixed i would be sweatin and shakin on the verge of a nervous brakedown , sony are very good to be fair. when ps1 came out i brought mine second hand 3years later it broke, sony came round and litralley just swapped it over no questions asked, ive had a psp aswell and did the same, there customer service is good i reckon u could go thru 5 ps3 and still keep replacing them 4u.

Argos is your friend, buy a new one swap them and bring it back and get a refund no questions ask

do you have 1 of those seperate PS3 cooling fans?, i was looking around checking how much the consoles, games e.t.c were and noticed the PS3 cooling fans - an article that was next to it mentioned that if your using the 40G or higher version it's best to buy 1 of those fans as there's a chance of it over heating , it could be worth checking them out if you don't have 1

id avoid the extra cooling fans at all costs,
my 360 worked fine for 2 years, then i bought and fitted an external cooling fan and it broke twice in 3 months,
it cost me £25 aswell

I had a prob with my PS3,which when i turned the console on it kept spitting the discs out and not recognising them.

I phoned the sony care line and a lady asked a few questions, asked when i brought it,then said that a new console would arrive in a pink and yellow carrie box by courier.Nice 2 days later a new one turned up at the door, what a result!!!!!

I mean what else do u want??mentall console and sweet customer service!!

but all the things the wife downloaded from the singstar store you can not download again because they are associated with another machine ,

sony said they would refund all the money and put it back in too the wallet that was two weeks ago and still no money

also my call of duty4 disc was stuck inside ,sony said that if they could get the disc out they would send it back , that was also two weeks ago still no disc

but if the disc was damaged they would have to order me one and then wait for them to receive the disc and then forward the disc to me , sounds realy fucking sensible to me like ,NOT !!!!!

Well I found a dead PS3 thread so........ fuck!

Bloody PS3 died on me after the latest firmware update on Saturday Cannot adam and eve it. Second one. and I purposly waited ages to buy one not to have an origianl model what a twat, probably better than this shitebag model...

Out of warranty and the fuckers want £99 to repair it. What a complete cock. I only bought my original through a dial a phone deal April 2008, now then, that fucker broke after about a month or two (so sony rep tells me on the phone, I thought it was longer) and now the replacement they gave me won't read any discs whatsoever. I'm fucking gutted.

Phoned them earlier having read about shit loads of reports of blu-ray drives dying after firmware 3.0 updates and he said something like "we dont use information off forums" or some BS... I was pissed off but didn't lose my cool, never seems to get you anywhere, MOM, you are the exception to the rule in my book bro

Theres loads of yellow light of death problems if you look on console/computer based forums, it's pretty common, not as bad a 360. Sony usually charge a fair whack to fix them from what i can gather, so you did pretty well there by the sounds of it.

They swapped mine for free after it refused to boot up then kept turning off.Next day delivery to gonna phone them in 10 months saying it's broke again, hopefully score a new one whilst still under warranty.

Didn't accept their offer mate. I mean it wouldn't have been a bad offer had it not been their poxy firmware update that bricked it in the first place, as it was their fault surely they should resolve it for bugger all moolah exchange. It's an expensive premium console after all...

Since i'm on my second version of this model and SONY won't fix it cheaper than a oner, I'm gonna take it to a guy in town. Done my brother in laws for £20 when his had YLOD, mine hasn't got that, but he'll still be cheaper than SONY... Then i'm thinking ebay it when it's working and get me a 250gb slim, I've had it with this model...

Timing on this is proper shite too I got uncharted 2 due any day then ratchet and clank and MW2... What a time to pack it eh...
