Hey.

Just set up my RVK, insulated ducting, and I want to know if you guys think it's not straight enough or not long enough.

It's much louder than I thought, and it really drops the humidity.

Any ideas to make it quieter? Apart from a fan controller. I mean neoprene mats, bubble wrap, flesh, diy stuff.

Had the same problem with humidity dropping and tried allsorts as in wet towels etc but ended up buying a fan controller. Also hear that mini foggers are good but i also had problems with low temps so the fan controller was best option for me.
Found that Quite a few people on here dont really pay too much attention to humidity unless related probs occur during grow.
As for noise if you want to decrease it id insulate fan and put inside a box but put it above the tent then add a DIY silencer(plenty of threads on here how to make) thumbsup.gif

well u could wrap the actual fan in bubble wrap but this makes them alot bigger.

Mmm as for the whooshing noise u could get a silencer for the end of the ducting dont no how good they are i'ver never used one.

But to be honest a fan controller is prob ur best bet, i wouldn't recommend a primair tho as they actually made my fans louder due to the fact it made them buzz like hell there whoosing sound was quieter than the buzzing. Oh n it was 2 ruck low powered fans i'm using.

As for the humidity prob had the same also ended up buying a humidifier from argos for £25 far better than those mini foggers.

alright mate i would say the fan is to close to the top of tent wich is making a real tight angle on the ducting going out of the top of the tent , also yeah it is pretty short i would think its pretty loud like that , also it doesnt seem to be extracting to anywere? should find somewere to dump that used air(roof , chimney , vent ?) and pull some fresh in from the room,

just my opinion, enviroment is the key to big yields get that right and your rocking <<

Youd be much better off putting your fan outside the grow room and putting a filter where the fan is now

Thanks for the responses.

I'm not sure how to make the angle less tight. Even if I put the fan outside the tent, the ceiling's only a foot higher than the box, so it's going to bend tightly somewhere.
If I put the fan in the opposite corner, diagonally across from the vent in the growtent, I can straighten it out a little more, but not much.
But then it'll be a little awkward.
I'll look into a diy silencer like stickypukka1 suggested.
I'd like a fan speed controller, but currently my bank balance is looking a little ill, so it'll have to wait.
Not too keen on getting a humidifier. Seems like every piece of equipment brings with it another problem that'll cost me more cash.
Humidity sank below 30% for the very first time thanks to this rvk. Pretty scary.
Vibes: I have nowhere for my exhaust to go. Lots of fresh air in the room it's in anyway, so it's not a problem.
Temperature's a little lower around 21 Celsius, which is fine.
I might just get a seperate timer on the fan, and then figure out a pattern that keeps my values in check.
Or exchange the rvk for this new 100mm cheap thing they have, less cfm, hopefully quieter. Not sure. RVK's have a good reputation but they're certainly overkill for a Homebox. With 102cfm I'm replacing all the air every 42 seconds, which is ridiculous.

Cheers for the feedback.

Well, first thing this morning I cut a metre off the 2 metres of insulated ducting, and strapped it to the front of the fan. So now there's a metre either side of the fan.

Six is half a dozen. Fact.

The sound of the front of the fan is lessened, slightly less motor noise. But now there is more whooshing coming from the exhaust end.
I just don't think there is a way to make one of these fans nearly silent without having a ton of extra space, which a homebox doesn't offer.
To make it as quiet as I want, I'd have to wrap the whole lot in a foot of concrete.

So if anyone's thinking of trying the same thing, don't bother. Instead, buy more ducting and stick it on the front, if you have the space.
Or get yourself some concrete...

Or I could try something like this:

where's your cf going, that should be inside your tent........cf....fan....ducting......
if you cant do that ,can you put the cf inside the tent and the fan on top, as in cf....ducting(going outside)...fan..ducting....
d'yknow what i mean, first spliff of the day stoned.gif

When i get a cf, i'll remove the ducting on the front and stick the cf right on, both inside the tent. But for now, i'm just trying to find a temp solution so i can keep the fan on while i'm trying to sleep. Also, just to learn about insulating sound.

yeah i know what you mean, but..........
even when you have a cf connected, it's the sound of the air being pulled in through the cf that makes the noise, i've got my 125 rvk wrapped up in insulation inside its original box, i now cant hear the fan, its the air going through the cf, the only remedy is gonna be a controller....more money 34.gif
dunno if you've seen Barts sound baffle.
I've made one and it works a treat m8, try it and you could disguise it on top of your drobe behind a box or summit unsure.gif
e2a; you've posted on that thread , it does work, now just a slight noise coming out of the end.
stickypukka1
looking at your new setup your gonna be restricted for space when you get your light in there too.
i roughly have the same setup and know that the sativa strains can be a pain so make sure you dont overkill the veg time or you will suffer like i did 34.gif
