Hi there all, first time grower here from across the pond. Fantastic site and have learnt so much I've decided to sign up and attempt to see if I can get a few joints worth from seed to smoke. Not a big smoker but from gritweed to wallpaper paste we get the worst of the worst over here, so when I do I'd like to know its kosher.

I'm doing a first-time grow with bag-seed (a hardy Indica from someone who did an outdoor grow here in Ireland, think the original strain was **** Poison or something along those lines.) - about 6 seeds are starting to germinate (half in a glass of water/half in dishes with wet kitchen paper) and I'd like to clear up some stuff so I can get everything sorted in the next few days.

1. How long should I leave the initial taproot of the seed to grow before planting?

2. I want these plants to be as small and bushy as possible. If I could keep them under a foot high that would be ideal as it will probably end up being a PC case grow. I understand that pinching off the main flowering bud is effective, and I intend to 'bondage' the ladies up in a ScrOg as early as possible, as an aside to that...

...whats the best way to get them flowering basically from seedling? Do I 12/12 them with a red envirolight once they get their first proper pair of leaves or how would I go about it?

3. The vessels I'm using for planting are circular ceramic dishes - similar to that you'd see a creme brulee in - which are 2" deep and 5" in diameter. They have no holes in the bottom. Are these suitable? Will the end result be smaller plants or will I have to go trimming roots or what?

4. When are they going to start to smell? My flowering set-up is going to almost certainly be a PC-Case with two regular fans and a 125w envirolight (I'm guessing red would be of more use to me given my lack of need for a veg period). If I have what, 2/3 plants in there in my bedroom would some small (cheap) active carbon filter over the outlet be enough to completely kill the smell until harvest? I've heard horror stories about 2/3 lowriders on a windowsill completely stinking out apartments till someone was forced to bin the plants and throw a bar of soap in the microwave on high in case the landlord came knocking biggrin.gif

Sorry for the outrageously long first post - what can I say, I've caught the bug cool.gif

Hi UncleHerb and welcome to the good ship UK420 biggrin.gif

First off, those pots are totally unsuitable and if you use them you'll not get any result as good drainage for canna is very important.

As soon as the bean has cracked and a root is showing I'd get them into soil.

For a micro grow cuttings might be better, giving you a bit more control as depending on your strain the plants might go through the roof although you can top and train but I'm no micro grow hexpert but fellow member Blab is and he's got small grows down to perfection and I would recommend you have a look at his diaries, you'll be well impressed and get lots of ideas for your own set up.

They might smell as vegging plants maybe not as thats strain dependent but once they flower you'll defo have to have carbon filtration.

You'll only need a small amount for your grow and you could get some from an Aquarium shop for a few quid and make your own.

I made my own filter as do many other folk here rather than playing silly money for someting that can be made so easily.

All the best with your grow and hope you start a diary so we can all enjoy your girls and be better placed to help you. thumbsup.gif
