smoke.gif Hi. Ive got some White Widow seedlings on the go (indoors). Put them in 10 inch pots with some Miracle grow a week ago. (is miracle grow cool for final pots?)
Shoots are about 10cm, have a lovely lime colour & looking pretty happy. First true leaves are still quite small - maybe an inch long & a cm wide.
Today noticed that the second set of true leaves are about to appear. When should i repot into the final pots ( 10 inch)
Any other tips appreciated.

I don't think the miracle grow is gonna be your best option for feeding them. You'll want to slide them out of those pots in a a week or so and peek at the root mass.. If its making a mold of the inside of the pot you'll need to them pot up.

Edited for my horrible grammar...

as far as ferts go something with a 20-20-20 would be good... But if they were my plants I would hit a hydro shop and see what kinda feeds they recomend.

yinyang.gif Ok, thanks man, makes sense to me. About the growing medium - on a bit of a tight budget, cant stretch to doing the hydro thing, what compost would you go with instead of m.grow? is John Innes No 3 any good?
Im watering when the top inch of the pots is crusty, is this right?

Even a good Multi-Purp compost, like B&Q's own will be OK - other people really rate JAB, Arthur Bower's, Westlands, and they can all be bought for not much money. wink1.gif

As far as watering is concerned, you need to follow a 'wet/dry cycle' routine - feel the 'heft' of your pots when they're dry and remember that feeling, then water until you get run-off, and leave the pots to soak (in a saucer or tray, whatever) in the run-off for about 20 minutes - pour any remaining run-off away. If they have soaked up the run-off water, water again until run-off, and leave them to soak it up again until they are saturated, and can hold no more. Then feel the 'heft' of the pots when they're saturated - now you will know, by feel, when your plants need watering. thumbsup.gif

if your using miracle grow compost its fine, miracle grow fert is a top fert at a very inexpensive price. i grow organic nowadays, but i started with miracle grow, great result, very big and extremely sticky buds. be care you dont overdo it, will burn plants if you do, and dont start feeding till seedlings are 4 weeks old, just water.

Hi mate, just a thought, but I think it would be best if you could pot them on into maybe a slightly larger pot and not into a big 10incher (ooh err) until the root mass developes. When I grew in compost, I would pot on poss 4 times until finishing in a 12ltr.
Good luck.

Ive potted them once, was planting in final pots when ready... is this a dubious move? have read that its the best way, saves on possible damage when re-potting etc. smoke.gif

When you say "dont overdo it, will burn plants if you do" are you refering to nutrients etc? Im mixing the M.G with 30% perlite for good drainage and have gravel in bottom of pots too.
Had read elsewhere not to feed for a month so thanks for vouching for that. smoke.gif

Dont know if you got previous reply. What do you mean by to take care not to overdo it, or risk burning plants? do you mean take it easy on the nutrients when using after week 4? smoke.gif

rofl.gif First post should have read 10 cm pots, DER! ... must have been something i toked.
Started in 10 cm - looking to repot into ten inch.

That's a lot better ..

Though I like to start smaller myself - this grow I sowed in 7cm pots then went 11, 15, 25.

The most important thing I've learned here is the value of training the roots.

In my grow I find myself repotting every 2 weeks.
