hi Grow Buddies
Grab ya self a seat all,and yes those are cocktail sausages on the barbie, sorry my budget is tight,as all my hard earned cash is going into this Grow Shed.
I started the Grow shed yesterday, the dimentions are 8ft L x 4ft W x 7ft H. All the materials were aquired and delivered by Jewsons, which is nice as i ain't got wheels at the mo. if any one orders anthing from jewson's just ask for a quote 1st as your ringing around, then they think they've got a price 2 beat. i got mine really cheap way cheaper than wickes, b&Q,homebase

i started off with the base,i put together a simple ladder frame using 5x2'' sawn timber so i can fit 4''foil backed insulation between the timbers.which gives me a 1'' air gap as specified by an insulation company ,to give an optimal insulation value.then the floor was covered with moisture resistant 18mm chip board flooring with 2 layers of bubble wrap under it 2 absorb sound and viration's,as stealth ph34r.gif is my main priority here followed closly by safety excl.gif
The sides were constructed with 1''x1 1/2'' timber with 2x2 timber for the corner posts and then covered with feather edge board, the stuff they use to construct fencing. The roof, i used 3x2'' timber for good support for lighting and filter plus so i can fit 2'' foil backed insulation between the timbers. for me foil back insulation is a must as the summer heat absorbed by the black felt on the roof is reflected back.

look at this for a bonus ,extraction from the bathroom so i'll be pulling warm air from the house, plus it'll be quite humid when the shower is going guitar.gif

looks like thats an outer wall of your house...

u best isolate it like there's no tomorrow if that is the case.
not only is it very easy to do infrared readings thes days. u just dont want your walls to cool off , or sounds to leak.
if thats inside a house/ a basement- very good.. stealthy place

hiya yoda,i was planning on insulating all of the grow room, wall included, just ran out of time pal.The Grow Shed it in a court yard, the only thing that could see my grow would be a chopper,so super stealth m8.All i'm worried about is noise,i don't want visitors saying why's your shed humming lol.gif

little stand alone buildings can be a pain in the ass to keep on right temp.
the problem arises when there's no air buffer.
When lights go off , cooling air will create condense and make mold catch on qauicker.

if possible , dig a tunnel, and place some air tube in it..
connect your house to your grow, and insulated the air-hose all the way.
this way ur air intake will be containing less humidity , and possibly be cooler in summer and warmer in winter, which is all the better.

hello again yoda ta for your advice pal.
i made a fan controller for my last grow which i'm planning on using in this grow, it's got 4 thermostat's, in the day the fan is on medium goes on full whack at 27oc and tube heater comes on at 20oc
At night the fan is just ticking over and switches 2 medium setting at 23oc and the tube heater kicks in 17oc, plus there's a digital humidistat that switches the fans 2 full whack when the room is too humid.
It worked perfect in my last grow, which was in a loft. i just hope it does the trick and don't kick into full wack mode 2often as it's very noise. i may look into a bigger extractor so i can run the over temp setting at a slower speed.i got the 150a1RVK at the mo if it don't cut the mustad i'll get me 1 of those airfore 150mm jobbies.

hey all, after yoda's post it got me wondering about insulation, will my silver backed insulation board do the trick g.gif
well 2 save all the hassle of finding out the hard way, with the Grow Shed being unmanagable temp wise or even getting busted through heat signiture. After googling and more googling i came across this stuff.

Tri-iso super 10 or official name triso-super 10 is a very reductive heat insulator, excellent for domestic application. The Product is easy to install and works very effectively. You can buy the product in rolls of 10m2 or 20m2.

Because of the way Tri-iso super 10 is installed it means that the product is able to stop the cold in winter and reflect the heat of rooms back inside. It also reflects solar radiation back outside in summer, thereby preventing overheating of attic rooms.

it was quite expensive but not as expensive as replacing my grow gear if i get busted. so off 2 the builders merchant i went ,or should i say builders merchant'S,bloody hard stuff 2 find but found some in the end.
i'll post some pics up soon, as i'm on a mission 2 get this Grow Shed finished.Usually i'd be in a rush 2 get some ladies in there but this time i'm gunna get this grow room well tuned in b4 any ladies even get a sniff.

found a bit more info, can't believe it's equall to 210mm of mineral wool now that's impresive, as owd said in another shed build i saw "if you try and squash mineral wool 2 fit in a smaller cavity it looses all it's insulation properties" or some where along the lines .
■ Efficient both in summer and winter
■ Space saving – 30mm thick!
■ Quick and easy to install
■ Flexible – can fit the most difficult of roofs
■ Durable - will not sag, moisture resistant
■ Non-irritant, hypoallergenic

TRISO-SUPER 10 is a new, improved, version of the popular TRI-ISO SUPER 9 insulation. TRISO-SUPER 10 gives increased thermal efficiency and is still only 30mm thick!
This product has been tested under real conditions by TRADA Technology Limited and certified as equivalent to 210 mm of mineral wool by BM TRADA Certification Limited (certificate n°0102, 03 april 2006).

■ Thermally equivalent to 210mm of mineral wool when installed in roof application.

by the looks of it you have got everything sorted out. The plod have better things to do than look for your small grow shed (no offense ment)
Small budgets big priorities an all that. keeping it warm this time of year should be the only thing to worry about.
Best of luck with it man
Bert..

hiya bert cheers for poppin in m8 .As i get quite paranoid, i'll sleep loads better knowing it's well insulated, even tho i know it's 1in a billion chance of gettin caught by heat signiture.
i just wish they bloody legalise canna as it's so stressfull growing with bad paranoia.

hopefully i'll have time 2 do abit 2 the Grow Shed on sunday,i'll put some piccies up then.
plan of action for sunday.

yinyang.gif Build door and swing it with a good mortice lock on there,no shody hasp n staples here!

yinyang.gif Insulate shed and tape joints with that really sticky foil tape.

yinyang.gif Run electric from the cooker point oposite the grow shed to a garage fuse board ,1 6a trip switch and 1 16 amp. the plan is to run my fans and pumps on the 6 amp trip switch and lights and heater on the 16 amp.
is this ok 2 do???

yinyang.gif Run a water feed from the outside tap 2 a ball cock in the res, plus fit some sort of drain off valve at the bottom of the res going to a hose pipe 2 feed/water the outdoor plants,no point wasting it is there. The reason behind all this is i don't wanna be walking back and forth 2 my outside tap with buckets. i want it so all i take into my shed is nutes and rockwool cubes and all that comes out is dry bud and used rockwool cubes ,what's the best way of disposing of the cubes? i was thinking of burning it but if any 1's got any better idea's i'd love 2 hear them.

i think if i get all that done i'll be a happy man.
cheers BBB

If you put your fans and lights on independant breakers, you run the risk of the fans tripping out and the light staying on. 34.gif Ideally you want them on the same breaker so if there is a problem it will fail safely, rather than failing dangerously.

You may be limited by the total load, but if you could put your heater on one circuit and the lights/fans/pumps on another. Allow for overhead as well. This way, if your heater trips out - it will only get colder. If your light/fan/pump circuit trips, only the heater would be left running on it's own, which would hopefully switch itself off due to the thermostat.

You may not be able to safely setup this way depending on your total load, especially if you have your cooker + lights + fans + electric BBQ on at the same time! guitar.gif
