My brother has just downloaded Ubuntu 64-bit edition and i was wondering if it will work with the processor i have. Would a 3.2GHz Intel Pentium D be good enough?

I'm pretty sure you have nothing to worry about if your pc says the processor is intel x64 or AMD x64

well it doesn't say that, it says intel pentium d. where would i be able to check to see if it has x64?

The D series is dual core 64 bit processor so you should be fine.

If you install it on a disk that already has Win on it, Ubuntu will ask you if you want to shrink that partition and make some room to make another partition to install Ubuntu on.
It will also automatically install a boot-menu that will give you a choice of whether you want to boot Win or Linux.

To save me opening a new thread...
Im running winxp 32 bit on a 64 bit machine but I have vista 64 on disk, can I dual boot it so I get to choose on startup which I use? both copies are not quite legit so will I run into any conflict/wga problems? Ive got wga cracks for vista 64 but not sure if Ive still got the disc for xp.
I just want to check Vista out, see how it runs etc, not willing to upgrade totally and find out I dont like it in the future...
cheers

There are ways to protect that data but since linux uses a different file structure than windows, it'll mostly likely format the entire disk for it's file structure. I'd recommend backing up your downloads to CDs/DVDs/tape drive, etc.
also, just curious why you chose ubuntu over debian.
