Just had a horrible thought, can any one help. I'm growing a brainstorm and need to keep her short as possible as I only have about 3' of height to grow to. at the moment shes just finished her first week of flower and is growing nicely. I've been tying her down so the branches are going horizontally, but i'm worried i'm gonna run out of height. I've added a map of her in the hope that you may be able to help me work out where to prune or what really. each pair of branches are at 90 degrees to the ones underneath and each has a big fan leaf under them ( left it off the drawing cause it was a bit confusing). shes really bushy too. what should i do to help keep the height down if anything/ is it too late now shes in flower to prunes or top, am I gonna have to just keep tying down.
please help I'm confused sad.gif

Hello Ipon, where you need to tie down is on the main stem, basically bending the whole plant over 90 degrees, there are some excellent threads and piks around if you do some searching, but briefly you need two pieces of string, one piece tied at about one third the way up then secured to the pot with just alittle tension say sixty/seventy degrees , the second piece is secured to the stem about two thirds/ three quarters up the stem, the next step is to tie it down gradually in the opposite direction to the first tie, this should be done over the course of several days allowing the plant to give you abit more slack to tie even further once its adjusted, what your aiming to do is get all those branches growing 90 degrees from the soil not the stem, after five days/ week you should notice that the plant as adjusted to the change and most of the leaves and branches are correctly orientated, once you've tied over the main stem, you can then tie each branch accordingly to maintain a level even canopy, hopefully this way you should save a good few inches on the height and make her nice n plump, maybe another member can post a good pik or two

cheers for that rasta, only trouble I've got now I think is the main stem is really thick already, I'd say about 10-12 mm at the bottom and fairly even all the way up untill the top two branches. I'm not that confident that she will bend at the main stem now. Also shes already really wide almost touching the sides of my box, so I dont think I'll be able to ben her over that way. I take it topping the side branches are a no no now shes flowering. I was considering trying to train her into a pattern like in the attached drawing, if it'd work.

dude, another suggestion would be to buy some chicken wire, and then to experiment with different shapes of it.

basically, the idea i had, was to weave the plants in and out of the mesh, as they grow.

so, all the plants will be restricted to the mesh., height aswell as width.

sorry mate, but im crap at drawings, so u'll have to use ur imagination.

an arch shape should be cool, but as long as u can weave, any shape is possible. wink.gif

i think I may have left it a bit too late now by the sounds of things. will have to try it on the next grow. Maybe we could start a competition for the most fancy shaped plant, could get titchmarsh to judge them at the local fete.
