Hi all

I, like many others I expect, sometimes lie at night thinking, "Hmm, I wonder if the neighbours can hear that hum", followed by, "I bloody hope not". So, after doing my homework I have found that I have a really bad fan install, you can see it here.

Many twists and turns, on boths sides of the fan, noisey and reduction in air flow. Also, bolted straight on to the wooded frame of the grow room, the whole room would vibrate if you touched the outside wall, kinda like a speaker, not alot, but enough to feel it.

So, the first thing to deal with was the bends, so I removed all ventilation so there was just the lenght through the wall, cutting it to about 18" long.

To hang the carbon filter I was going to use Bungie ropes and Anti-Vibration fixings for the fan, but B&Q dont sell em.... hmm... I have an idea.......

So, what I decided would work was the 6-Hooked Bungie Ropes for luggage, here you can see the basic layout to hang it. You have 4 arms to hang it, and 2 to wrap around it to hold on to it.

This is another shot from above, if the previous didnt really show you what I meant

When hung, and connected it looked like this. Very secure, no way it can fall out or down and totally anti vibration, also, no bend on the outlet.

I had this problem aswell, nice idae that :]
I just made a box, cut a hole either side and packed the box with bubble wrap and cut up foam.
Nice idea with the bungies though biggrin.gif

Then, I was lucky, as I had not allowed for this when I built the cupboard. But the carbon filter will still fit inline with the fan.

Again, but hanging this by Bungie ropes and going straight onto the fan there is very little vibration that can get into the cupboard itself, causeing humming. Also, with no bends, there is very little whooshing noise as the air travels though the extraction.

try packing with loft insulation works great and is fire proof. can get from B&Q comes in rolls also you can put around ducting and tape on, was told this is wat they use in the silenceducting you buy from growshops.
