Hi all. My grow setup is in a shed in the garden. I want to install a smoke detector out there, but it's not much use as I wouldn't hear it from the house. Does anyone know of any remote smoke detectors that would sound an alarm indoors?

Cheers,
Bajer

A webcam would be useful for real time monitoring, but it's not going to wake me at three in the morning if the shed goes on fire!

I found these, they're a bit pricey at £40 each, especially as you'd need two, but I'd sleep sounder.

Also found this place:

From the left hand menu, select Smoke alarms Radio Link 9V battery

They have a cheap and cheerful one for £15. The range is only 30 meters, but I should be ok. One in the shed, one in the kitchen and one upstairs. If one goes off, they all go off.

I've made one myself when i was out the shed.

All you do, is rip open a normal smoke alarm, and extend the wire leading from the siren (put the siren in the house, detector in shed) works a treat.

I used the cable they use for chipping ps2's,

btw, you can also get remote smoke alarm for the deaf, like a vibrating wrist watch, but they are quite expensive.

Thanks Smokey, that's a great idea, but my shed is isolated from the house, and I'd never be able to run the cables. The ducting for the electrics is long since buried. I think I'll get a couple of those RF ones and see how they go. Can't go wrong for that price.

I was also looking at wireless webcams for remote surveillance. Linksys do a cheap one, but the range is no use. D-Link have good ones, but they're dearer. I'm rambling now....

Anyway, thanks,
Bajer
