Hello all,

And so i have decided to try and build a bubble cloner. I have read up about as much as i possibly can on the subject and now i have made it im looking for some general advice or constructive critisism.

Firstly i know (or think i know) that the Bubble Cloners are slightly dated and people seem to be using the Aerocloners with the nozzles that spray a mist onto the stems. I was wondering, will i get similar results from this method? or is the Aerocloners superior to the Bubble cloners in any way? I ask this because i have a few pumps lying around and if needs be i could build an aerocloner also. smile.gif

I also would like to know what would be the best to cover the box so the light doesnt get in. i have used some duck tape but it lets in light, i suppose i could use a few layers of it maybe that will keep the light out enough.

Anyway here it is, and any advice ect is much appreciated.

BTW This is all been made to cost as little as possible so i have picked the materials up for as cheap as i could possibly get them.

So i started off with some old bubblers from a friends unused NFT grow.

Aqua Air AP2 X1 £0.00 - Usually about £10
Aqua Air Mini X1 £0.00
6mm Aquarium Tubing X5 Meters £0.36p per metre
12 Inch Airstone's X2 (i think there 12 inch) £1.99 Each
Woolworths 16 Litre Box £2.99

First i cut the holes in the lid for the 2 main pipes using a pair of scissors cus i dont have a drill lol.gif.

Next i placed the Airstones where i wanted them and stuck down with a small bit of Duct Tape. (Very unsure about this, not sure if duct tape was the right thing to use because i dont want any toxins coming from the adhesive into the water, maybe a glue gun would be better?)

Once the Airstones were in place i filled with water to see the bubble action!

Apologies for bad pics, can anyone tell from the pics if the bubbles are big enough? When i put my hand close to the water i can feel the bubbles splashing on my hand like a mist.

And that was it! All i needed to do now was cut the holes in the lid and tape all the sides.

Cones will be cut tomorrow to test. Will update thread.

Its not perfect but i am here to see if any of you hydro experts have any advice or help towards making it propperly. Also i have heard a lot of things about wether to use nutrient and rooting hormone or none at all. A lot of people say use no nutes and no rooting hormone and even just straight tap water not even PH'd! Surely a couple of drops Clonex Gel would speed up the process and maybe some formulex or i also use Bio Bizz G+B would it help to use nutes and rooting gel? or just best to use water straight from the tap?

Thanks for reading.

I'd get something around the base to keep the light out... I've got two D.W.C. tubs that are light colored, and they would still let light in without the skirts I put on... I used outdoor planter bed material and duck tape works great so far... For that lid I guess you could tape it up I don't think that will cause any harm to your clones... Otherwise looks right on target to me... Deffenately better than the one I built...

Thanks for your comments Podgy, I will have a look for a bit of that Planter Bed Material.
