Full Version: Should I Blow Or Suck?

I'm trying to design my grow room ventilation system for temp/humidity. I have EasyCool air cooled reflectors also. This will be in a basement room 20' x 20' x 10' subdivided into veg and flower rooms. The veg room will be 1/3rd the size of the flower space but will also hold clones and mothers.

Q1: Should I push or pull air through the reflectors?

I could bring in fresh air by pushing it through the reflectors but the air would be hot entering the room.

I've thought of exhausting air through a carbon filter and then through the reflectors. But if this fan is controlled by a temp/humidity box then the reflectors will only be cooled during the exhaust/intake cycle.

I also have a CO2 generator, heater, and ocscillating fans.

Q2: How to control the environment in both rooms for temp/humidity and CO2 and fresh air. All I can think of is raising the partition between the two rooms during the 12 hour flowering day, but what happens when both rooms are dark? What happens when I am away for a day or two?

Keep in mind that noise is a big issue as I'm trying to go super stealth. I'm in the States and, as we all know, the laws and enforcement are Draconian.

Are there any books, websites, or DVDs aimed at larger grows where automated ventilation layouts that include controllers, CO2, multiple rooms, etc. are covered? I've read J. Cervantes' Marijuana Horticulture, the Overgrow FAQ, and the Bible as well as watched the Green Man and Ready Set Grow videos. They are all aimed a small grows and are very helpful for basic concepts. I'm just ready for the advanced text.

IMO:

Q1: I would do both... how many lights are you using, and whats the wattages?

I also think you'll find that the air moving through the lights will only be slightly warmer than
the source its being drawn from. I'm using the blowers on my lights for air flow right now,
but I put the glass on in summer and plug in my A/C

Q2: I would use fans to move air between rooms, and if its done properly you won't
really need the C02 in a room that size with the proper air flow I think you'll find the C02
gennerator will be more of a waste of good flowering real-estate.

Also most systems that help regulate a grow rooms climate like you've described normally run about a grand and change out the door.. I couldn't tell you who makes a good one as I have never used one..

Hi Podgy and thanks for the reply!

Lighting:
I'm starting out with a single 600w MH in the veg room and three 600w HPSs in the flower room. After I get up and running I will expand to 3 600w MH and 8 600w HPS, more or less. I have two linear light movers and hardware for all the reflectors.

Reflectors: EasyCool 6s arrived today. I read the directions (1st time for everything) and they say to pull air through them. Now I'm thinking of pulling air from outside the room into the fixtures and then to exhaust. I'll put in separate fans to control temp and humidity.

Yeah, I know this is getting complicated and expensive, but with my absentmindedness wink.gif, the more automated the better chance I have of keeping the garden in equilibrium.
