Woah - hold on a minute, please, fella.

The carbon/extraction - could you go into a little more detail? I am designing a microgrow and have got my lighting, mediums, and ventilation sorted. But we had to just scrap the carbon filter. When we put even the smallest amount of carbon in front of the fan, we ended up with nothing coming out the back. Are you sure the air is passing through the carbon? If so, what type of carbon (we got some from fish shop but granules are really a bit small), what cfm of pc fan and how did you assemble? we decided to go with an ozone generator and some glade plug-ins after getting too pissed off with the carbon. Maybe its the type of granules?

Looking good so far - i was thinking of doing one of those big freezers where the lid opens rather than the door (with the light attached to the lid).

keep us updated.

bearing in mind this is only a fridge grow i used a small computer fan and the back of the filter is nice and cold so air is passing through dont know about a bigger set up if i was making one id use an apapted filter still with charcoal but at intermitant points not all in a big lump some thinglike that so you have thin layers of charcoal.... ph34r.gif

Herbals filter is comprised of activated carbon granules sandwiched between cooker hood and then held in place with the mesh. It does work, Ive been in his garage before he made the filter and he did have a problem starting. Ive been in since and his filter has done the job. biggrin.gif

Hi Herbal, I got bored over Xmas, so thought I would convert the old fridge freezer into a vegging chamber/Drying room at the bottom.
Have ducted the outlet into the flower room.So no carbon filter required.
Heres a pic. Click to view attachment
They are ideal for a small grow. wink.gif .Sb

Great idea for getting a big cheap fridge.

If you are only building a veg box and blooming elsewhere, you can go for the Government subsidised, standard CFL lighting and run them 24 hours a day. You wont need a carbon filter for vegging so you could do a whole veg box for next to nothing. If you do want a night period, timers are £1.99 at B&Q.
You can then also grab all the wires, sockets and plugs you need from any charity shop, old lamps should be a quid each.
The best bulbs, in my opinion, are the Phillips Osram range. These are available from Sainsburys, Tesco stock GE bulbs which may work just as well, but Sainsburys have the Phillips ones which I know work well. The basic Phillips Genie 11w bulbs are 3 for a pound and the decent Osrams are between 1 and 3 quid each depending on wattage.
I've used the Phillips Osram 20w CFLs with great results for little plants and my mates doing well with my little set of four at the moment. I'd always grab 'em if they're on sale.
If you use angle head lamps, you can really get 100% out of the bulbs, but just remember a lot of angle head lamps have screew in bulb fitting, not push in.
PS If you want cheap desktop and oscilating fans, dehumidifiers, climate control units etc., especially at this time of year, look in your Yellow Pages and almost every town has a company that clear liquidated offices and all that shit and sell the furniture from a warehouse on an industrial estate, desks and chairs mostly, but they always have a few cheap bits for your growy.
Thrifty is Nifty folks.
