instead of using white matt paint for the inside of my box could i use emulsion?
barnzo
anyone?
leroy
yep as long as its matt emulsion

not a lot afaik, you need as much reflective light/walls as you can get, if you cant get that diamond/mylar then matt whites the next best thing.
more reflection, more light around the plants............= happy girls wink.gif

Hello barnzo,

I painted the inside of my veg box with white paint (albeit gloss) when I started and three days ago covered it all up with some mylar (diamond) and my babies have bushed right out, they seem to be happier with the mylar. If you can afford it go with some mylar it's not expensive at £2.25 pm at the online shop.

No do not use emulsion on the inside , at some time it will get brittle & start flaking , you could seal the surface first ( pva ) then you're into the monies/damp issue , cover it or gloss imho .

emulsion will only do that if its really thick or if the surface is damp before 1st coat.
give it a 50/50 paint water mix coat first, then a normal coat when the 1st is dry.

no, if you cover it or gloss it your only covering up the problem, if its damp then get it sorted or the whole roof will start to rot.............big money

paint the walls with 50/50 pva and water first , let it dry ...then add pva to the paint . this will give a good water resistant surface and easy to wipe clean
even doing this when painting rooms in the house help with the paint durability , very handy if you got young kids with chocolate covered hands !!
gloss has a much less reflective properties than matt white and discolours with uv wink1.gif

ive already painted it now. is there no way i can still still cover it with 50/50 pva and water now?

if you have any flakey bits scrape them off and paint with pva then paint , so long as you let the pva go off before painting (this is the primer) you can put as many coats on as you like

Don't worry about it Barnzo, you'll be fine as you are. You can always give it another coat if it does discolour later on.
