Title says it all..
Why are there strains grown for outside, and others for inside?
All plants are techniqually meant to be grown outside, there isn't enough light etc for them to grow correctly indoors. So why have specific indoor / outdoor strains?

It's the way certain vars have been bred AFAIK. Years of breeding experience to create the ideal indoor strains.
I'm sure someone with far superior knowledge on this subject may correct me, but i think i'm fairly right in saying it.

Hi,
This is a good question, i ve always wondered it myself, i can understand the part about indoor plants growing outdoors as they could perhaps mould etc, but what about trying outdoor stains inside under lights, would they not perform as well, grow as frosty buds etc, not be as strong or would they be a pleasent suprise, when you read the specs for most outdoor strains they sound pretty nice and dont seem to be have hybridised as many indoors have. Could maybes be onto a winner with a nice old skool outdoor strain ???

i just assumed it was a height thing,
breed to not grow like a tree, have a shorter flowering time, for a good yeild,
and to be consistant...............
or is it to do with which side of the equator it's grown and where it's from......?????

The way I see it, you can recreate every effect a so called outdoor plant might need indoors... Light movers, fans, humidifiersblah blah...
And come to think of it.. Light leak for indoor growers is a a big problem during the 12/12 period. Yet out doors, you have the moonlight, so chances are that an outdoor plant will have light even in 12/12, maybe that's ok as they'll most likely be pollinated?

AFAIK

the outdoor strains are designated as such due to certain properties like mould resistance, early flowering etc. I can see no reason why they couldn't be grown indoors.

i know that strictly indoor strains such as ICE do not do well ourdoors, i put a helthy 6inch cutting outside and it died quickly...
