Hi all.

I have just been watching an old episode of mythbusters and they were busting the myth that it is better to leave the lights on when you leave the room ( its not switch them off, you'll save money!! )

However during their test they did an on/off test to see how they coped with the stress, and after 6 weeks constant on off ( every 2 mins) only the LED was still burning brightly.

so it got me to thinking, could these leds be used for vegging, in replacement of energy savers ??

the one pictured is 3.4 watts, and is designed to replace a standard 40w bulb or 10w cfl

so how many of these would be needed to illuminate an 80cm squared veg area??

Nice idea but those bulbs have the wrong spectrums for growing plants... kinda like firing up an incandescent bulb to grow with.

Hi hydro,

I dont mean that bulb exactly, just that type of led bulb.

I have seen a website where you can get cool white and warm white versions of this bulb.

"White" LEDs aren't very efficient. They're actually blue ones with something similar to a phosphor to broaden the spectrum.

Red ones are the most efficient and luckily very useful for plant growth smile.gif

And that lamp probably wastes a lot of energy trying to look like an incandescent.
