Been to my local grow supply store today and after purchasing some nutes I chatted to the owner for a while and she mentioned that they had started selling seeds and handed me a price list, to say I am gob smacked ohmy.gif is an under statement, the majority of the seeds are over a £100 for 10 with something called G13 #1 coming in at £245 for 10 or £445 for 10 fems !!!!

This got me thinking, the most I have ever paid for seeds is £30 and everything I have grown has gotten me very stoned and very happy so, is the stone from these these extreme priced seeds really worth it ?

Am I missing out on something by sticking to the (relatively) cheaper seeds ?

Does anyone buy these seeds (>£100 per 10) ?

TBH mate, in a word, no they are not worth it. I spent over 70 quid on Sensi NLs recently and none of them cracked - a hard lesson for a beginner to learn and an expensive one. As I sat there today looking at where they might have stood, imagining Christmas with the tinsel blowing gently in the cool refreshing breeze of a 7" osicllating fan, I wiped away a tear and said, "Well, that was a waste of money. Never again. From now on, I'm just buying the (usually cheap) indoor mixes and taking pot luck. Variety is be the spice of life, but not over £50 (still gonna get some Serious Seeds strains to try). Stick with the stuff that works - there are no guarantees with weed and especially as it's a natural product, it inevitably means no refunds.

I have read around the forum (thanks for the links Smokey) and cannot find a report that says these expensive babies are well worth my hard earned ££. As mentioned I would have expected to see some reports of massive yields or out of this world mind blowing highs but no.

I have bought all my seeds from the UK420 shop and will continue to do so, if Joolz sells them then thats good enough for me.

If any of the seeds suppliers are reading and would like to send me a sample to try, I would be happy to give over some of my valuable grow space to these A list celebs of the seed world (I imagine this will not happen - lol.gif).

So far I have grown, Amsterdam Flame, White Widow, Afghani #1, Unknown Sativa (from a mixed bag for a tenner) and currently Mandala #1, all have been excellent smokes with good yields, why I would ever want to spend over £100 to get what I can get for £20-£30 is beyond me.

Am I just a tight git ? Who knows unsure.gif

Maybe as I get more growing experience under my belt I will be tempted into the £30+ range but not just yet.

Nettle-Grower I feel your pain man, nothing worse than a total crop/seed failure, might just be enough time to get a quick grow in for newyear ?

Anyone else just starting or started for Xmas/Newyear ?

One thing ive noticed since i got into this is theres a serious amount of hype and bullshit peddled, theres probably a hundred varities of seed for under £30 with anything you want from sativa to indica to high thc to proven stable 20 year old genetics etc etc etc in the store, a lot of the gear is overpriced tack that you can source cheaper too(just noticed that could sound like a dig at the store but it wasnt meant to, i just mean in general).

Were growing plants at the end of the day, people have been growing plants since they were invented. tongue.gif

G13 is more like an urban legend anyway. I have smoked at least 4 different strains where the owner swore that it was the one and only G13. They were all very different so I for one would not know how it really tastes. For all I know one out of four could have been the "real deal". You see a lot of reference of G13 in strains, it shows good in the genetics wink1.gif. Killer Queen for example is the suposed G13 x C99.

But what a lot of people forget is that it's not only the seeds. You can grow beautiful plants from the cheapest seeds or ruin the most expensive ones. Buying a Ferrari F1 is not enough to guarantee a title, buying good paint doenst make you a painter. On contrary. The expensive strains most of the time need specific care because of their extreme character and are not for beginners.

I'm always careful blaming the seedbank. They are just selling the seeds and could have had a bad supply. Most seedbanks I dealt with didn't have any poblems sending me new or other seeds when I had poor germination rates btw. I always give them the chance to correct what possibly isn't their fault. Therefor I like to order from a specific breeder, such as soma or gerrit or sannie or motarebel.

well in short: I don't think any newly bred seeds are worth that kind of money. Even when it would really be a vary rare strain.

Hi Whazzup,

you seem well placed to answer a question I have in that there seem to have neen instances where a seed company/breeder has put a new line out and instead of,say for example a very qiuck maturing indica(with SOME sat genes) is expected(As advertised!)a totally different animal emerges.

Something like where the Sativa side is expressed but should have stayed recessive, which may mean stretchier plants and lower yields along with longer flowering times, which was'nt part of of the original brief,if you like?

Which made me think.....do seedbanks/breeders ever make crosses and put them out as finished strains without having grown a subsequent batch of seed out to test the strain you've just gotten F1 seed from?

I wouldnt have thought it good practice at all but I can't why else some strains just don't behave as advertised.

Theres money to be made, your theory could be right, some kid could have swapped beans at the factory or shop, yadda yadda yadda, your guess is as good as mine, get over it tongue.gif

sorry m8, just in a good mood tonight.

There's good, cheap brands and criminally overpriced shit brands in the legitimate commercial marketplace. The world of cannabis seeds is unregulated and there's nobody independent you can complain to if you're sold a dud, because it's illegal to grow them, at least here in the UK (he says, stating the painfully obvious). That opens the door to chancers who can take the piss safe in the knowledge that there's gonna be precious little comeback. And there definitely are some companies out there who take the ever living piss. Not mentioning any names. But if someone is asking for over £100 for a pack of beans (and a small pack, come to that) I think you can safely assume they're taking the piss. The best way to decide if a company (or a strain from a company) is worth the money is to see what the word of mouth is, and that's just one of the many, many great things about UK420, there's grow diaries and smoke reports aplenty, good companies and good strains will be talked about in good terms, bad strains and bad companies will get the bad publicity they deserve. Seen a strain you fancy ? Search is your friend, if you can't find it, just ask & I'm sure someone will know something about it. The depth and breadth of knowledge here means you will never have to pay over the odds for shit beans off some piss taking ripoff merchants wink1.gif

My old Dad once said to me that the value of a product was determined by what people were prepared to pay (or words to that effect). It seems that with the choice and availability via the internet seed dealers can charge silly high prices knowing that you only need one gullible punter @ £180 than say 6 sussed punters @ £30.

BOG seeds are or were just crosses with no testing, back in the overgrow days he would be coming out with a new strain every 8 weeks, usually to the day. He was just crossing the stuff he had over and over and calling it something else and was selling them by the truckload.

There is a lot of coin involved in this game and people should realise and hold close like the previous poster said that it is a plant, the new fashionable plants may be in the magazines now and cost £60 promising the world but in all likelihood 10 year old + genetics probably kick it's ass as it has stood the test of time, a lot of the new strains are forgotten about inside 6 months never to make a real come back.

for £100+ i would expect a very stable line. such things take work. each n every seed should grow into a very simular plant, and perform just as the pack your mate got 6 months ago aswell. With such steady genetics you could plant out a whole field, and treat them all exactly the same. they would all reach the same heights, same time, same yeild, no hermaprodite tendancys that could ruin the whole lot. just an easy low maintenance crop of a plant that behaves.
growing plants of steady lineage lets you learn them. helps you perfect idea's. if its works this way, it will work this way next time aswell.... its how we tune our crops to our space.

cheaper genetics dont have to be random though. it just means nobody is trying to recoup money from them, or that its something they never made anyway and everyone has it.

im sorry to hear about the northern not performing. i believe the banks gone downhill. Im told a lot of there stock is old now, as they just can't breed in holland like they used to. perhaps they just have no love 4 it anymore... i dunno. i just know i keep hearing bad storys these days, but they were so good...

Yeah - I have grown a few lines from THSeeds and the phenotypes are all over the place. Heavy Duty Fruity I bought for something like £60 and got 5 different phenotypes of a generally agreed total of 9+ from overgrow. Sagamartha seeds gave me stable plants, especially wonderberry. Serious seeds I rate as well, but as far as anyone else goes? I'd take a rain check - I'd probably gamble on chimera and flying dutchmen but that's about it.

More on point though no i'd never spend anything like £100 on a pack of seeds. They're taking the piss and their product would never warrant it when compared to other proven strains out there for less.
