Full Version: Anyone Ever Try Blossom Blood?

Hey all, does anyone have any experience with blossom blood? I've heard very good things about bud blood, but the UK's Advanced nutrients importer is apparently not going to have any bud blood for ~7 weeks, so I'm going to give blossom blood a try. If memory serves bud blood was originally marketed as a copy of blossom blood, however currently A/N suggests using it in the first week of flowering, while Blossom blood is supposed to be used "when the flower buds are established" which I assume is in the 2nd or possibly even 3rd week of flower... So, does anyone with some blossom blood experience under their belts want to share helpful hints?

Cheers

Apparently that's a no. Well, fools rush in. Used 1/2 the directed results (which is recomended). For the record this is an *extremely* small amount for soil, directed is 1gram (1/4 tsp)mixed into 20L of water, then you water with *1/2* a liter per plant. Of course to make matters more fun, I mix into 5L containers, so I had to use 1/8th of a gram (1/32nd of a tsp). Which amounts to me using a 1/4 tsp spoon, and putting very little blossom blood in it, mixing it with the 5L, pouring that into a 1L container, then watering with a bit more than half of it just before lights out on the 5th day of flowering (I have a fairly large planter, and was quite tired by this time.) We'll see what happens. The plant was a very nice looking bush when I watered (wider at it's widest point then it is tall at it's tallest point), for lights on tonight I'll do a light feeding (1/2 recomended doseage of biobizz nutes + sweet, I was going to use biobizz topmax as well, but since I'm using A/N aditives I'm a little hesitant. I know topmax can be used with bigbud, but am not sure if it'll interfere with sweet or carboload or... so I'm pondering that until tonight smile.gif ) by watering again I'll hopefully wash out any excess blossom blood since eyeballing such small portions is far less than easy (also the plant was thirsty, .5 or ever 1L is not enough water for her... (Hydro instructions are 2x soil instructions for the record) it does make the watering solution surprisingly rose colored considering how little powder I used (apparently while it does cost a lot, it's a life time supply for a small gardener), we'll see how the results are, but IMHO if you're a small soil user, it might not be worth the hassle (or worry). We'll see what it does to my girl, back to worrying I gave her too much.

Wow, not entirely sure if it's the Blossom blood, or just that afghani #1 is a quick plant (officially it's rated at finishing in 45days, but I assume like most quotes, that's the earliest for commercial growers, and another week or so would be useful, so I've got her on an 8 week plan with the 8th week a chemical flush (with advanced nutrients' final phase) and then possibly a 9th week of just water if the plant can wait another week (and of course I'll move up the schedule if need be, but I have yet to find a breeder's estimation to be accurate...) Anyways, bud production has been, well, startling. It's now roughly day 17 of flowering, and while there is still a little bit of stretching going on, it's very controllable, and it looks like I'm going to have a solid 11 or so "good" bud sites. (bending/training is a very good thing, my girl's main stem was bent 3 times, and apparently it hasn't hurt the main cola at all, and helped convince other branches to... well, branch out and up smile.gif ) more updates later. But so far, I have to say I like blossom blood (which is good because apparently I have a near lifetime supply...)

Interesting note on this afghani #1 (which apparently is in fact an afghani #1, yay smile.gif ) it doesn't like to be fed, it seems to like root/bloom enhancers (voodoo juice, bud blaster, big bud, carbo load, and sweet) but fert/food... not so much. It curls up it's leaves at even mild doses (.5ml/l) of biobizz. So, a reminder to all of you would be Afghani #1 growers, start the nutes *REALLY* slowly at least in compost. Have to say, this is the most easily over fed plant I've seen... guess that's what the seed companies mean when they say a strain is good for beginners, it can for the most part be left alone and thrive smile.gif Of course it might even thrive even more without bloom enhancers, but well... I only have the one girl, so I'm not going to test that smile.gif )

Oh, while I'm updating this, anyone want to sound off on the pros/cons of continuing to use sweet leaf / your personal favourite sugar source during the flushing week(s)? In the past I've always done a pure water flush, but some of my friends swear by continuing to use sweet leaf/whatever sugar source they use, right up until cutting time.

Happy gardening all.
