hi ppl a freind of mine has just phoned sayin he has little black flys with white back in his root tray of an nft424

anyone know what they are and how to get rid

cheers

Sounds like it could be Thrips or Fungus Gnats - either way Pest Off or soapy water will do for them.
jiffa
would these both work ,coz the flys are in the tanks under the corex and not on the plants themselfs
Sin Humo
Both will kill them by suffocation so you have to make sure to hit them directly. I imagine they're breeding in there so it'll take a few treatments.
jiffa
and these will be ok to spray around the roots

The Pest Off is non toxic so I'd imagine it would be OK - you could try a corner of the tray first just in case. It's made by hydrogarden - you could check out their website and even send them an email just to be sure. I use it regularly on my plants and they seem to like being drenched in it.

another vote for pest off.. quicker you can get it the better

It even works to treat cuttings covered in thrips very good stuff Its meant to be organic aswell..
