Hey all,

Got thrips, first time I've ever got any type of bug in my grow, but I know how they ended up there or afair idea. I started dp powerplant outside for a summer grow but round about end of june decided the summer was going to pants and decided to bring inside.

The plant is about 3 weeks into flowering lighting cycle, so prob another 7-8 weeks to go. Used westlands mp compost with add john innes.

I noticed the thrip damage about two weeks ago but thought it was nutrient lockout and messed around with the ph etc. Anyhoo was tying back all the main bud stems and spotted the yellowy grey wriggly thing. On close inspection was a thrip larvae. Damage on plant isn't major, mostly a few damaged leaves here and there at the bottom. I haven't seen any flying ones. Checked all the leaves (damn me eyes hurt with the strain) and saw about on avg 1 thrip larvae for every second leaf.

I got some rose pesticide with that added bifenthrin at .04g/l and some other stuff dont what it is: flutriafol .10g/l. Its made by Scotts.

I really would prefer not to use chems is there an alternative?

If I do use chems do u think that pesticide will kill em? Do i need to spray the soil as well? Do I spray under leaf only or everywhere and how often?

Cheers,
tsm

ps never ever ever growing a plant outside and bringing it ever ever ever again!

theory
you can remove them one by one yourself mate - it takes a while and you'll not be guaranteed to get them all unless you really are very thorough but no chems are required. just put your nit nurse hat on smile.gif

apparently you don't need to worry about the soil but I'm not entirely sure on that so when I used 'scott's bug clear' I sprayed the top of the soil

best thing ive ever used for thrip is scotts clear bug.......its recommended by the horticultral society of great britain.....i realize weed is smoked and veg is not and its wize to rinse the applications off after a few days with plain water misting ( or add a bit of superthrive for any stress incured) cool.gif

half the makers recommended strengths is always best to start with imho, and yes, underleaf, while masking any large flowers with your hand

hope it helps......Dayone

thanks all, fell asleep after a nice fattening sunday dinner so gonna hit em just before lights off tomorrow morning at 8am

I'm gonna bite the bullet and use the chems, i really dont want for em to get out of control. Read on another thread some guy little shook a branch a hundreds fell off. I'm very far from this and never want to get there heh.

Was looking at scotts bug clear and i think it has the same concentration of bifenthrin (.04g/l ) as my rose gun. Can someone check if they have bottle handy other wise will have to go get some.

nea.gif sorry bart but having spent quite some time using SBPI I can say it doesnt work on thrips. I believe OT1 has confirmed this in a post before, scotts bug clear on the other hand is wicked for getting rid but of course it aint organic.

oh and i can confirm scotts bug clear does contain 0.04g/l bifenthrin

Hi CinderellaMan,

I'm not try to open old wounds or start a flame war here but SBPI can kill thrips, I've used it to wipe them out and OT reported that several others had also found SBPI to work against thrips as this post illustrates. SBPI works by physical action and I think that it may work by suffocating the younger ones while the adults are big enough to possibly break free but I'm not 100%. I personally believe that it may be down to differences in application rather than variations in thrips but I could be wrong.

Next time I find a thrip I'm going to conduct some evil experiments evil.gif and see if I can get some photographic evidence one way or the other.

Peace,
Felix.

wore a mask but that stuff is noxious!

Unfortunately was unable to take the plant out of the environment as it has been tied down a number of times. I really hope i dont have to put anymore of that stuff on it it felt so wrong!

I check for thrips again on thursday hopefully will have killed em all.

Thanks for evreyone's help :-)
