Hi,

I want to slow down the speed of one of these:

Is it ok to hook it up to a dimmer switch? Or does anyone have a better method of slowing it down?

Messing with electrics is not my forte and I want to be sure this is a safe thing to do.

Thanks,

You can get plug-in fan controllers for a few quid that would be suitable to control that kind of fan (but not RVK-types) - they sell them for about £5 on a certain well-known auction site, AFAIK.

There's some pix around on the board of them somewhere - just like plug in things with a socket and a knob on them.

Good idea, geez I never even thought of that and I can't use 'stoned' as an excuse cuz I aint had any smoke for a while 34.gif

I built my growbox with strips of wood to clip the fans in certain spots and I would have to do alterations to bounce the airflow of the wall...basically I'm too lazy for that, the plants are stretching nicely and it would be a PITA and would rather just spend a few quid, good idea though.

Yeah, I would like to know where you got em so cheap as well. I've had mine for years and it would be good to have spares.

I'm sure it's been suggested elsewhere, but a CD stuck in the middle. Or I just went for some duct tape to force the air out the sides.

I was doing the weekly shop this morning and picked up one of these from tesco for £14.97.

I'm going to put it on the floor of the box in front of the intakes and take out the clip on.

I'd give your local pound shop a look first, I've seen similar to them for sale in one of the pound shops in Brighton recently, and if they turn out to be crap & stop working it's only a quid.

if your going to use a fan, i'd suggest a fire alarm fitted near your growroom aswell, just incase. ph34r.gif

Something like one of these: Click to view attachment

You can buy them at Lidl and the like, when they're in stock.

you should have fire alarms in the gr anyway but particularly with a fan.

them clip fans are good. only seem to come from B&Q regularly but if they break its easy enough to keep the clip. most small desk fans will part at the bend and fit nicely.

Not in themselves, but they would ventilate a fire in the GR by providing it with extra Oxygen, and also the exhaust would carry smoke away, possibly into a smoke detector placed near the exhaust outlet. wink1.gif
