The purpose of this thread is to monitor and talk about the general situation re C99 today.
Most people reading this will know the story of the creation of C99 by Mr. Soul of Grimm Bros., initially from a pack of (possibly) Jack Herer - father unknown. By all accounts (I never got to try it) the original circulated by Grimm Bros was outstanding smoke. Well, most people will also know that Grimm Bros fell victim to Prohibition, so C99 spread via various individuals who did hack jobs on the original. The results have not been too bad on the whole. What surprised me recently, was to see that C99 seeds (even hacks of the original) have once agin become quite tricky to find. I'd have thought that anything so popular would have become well established. Not so, apparently. Fleur du Mal, whose Cindy has a good rep was forced to disappear off the scene, and Fet of SpiceBros cut back seriously, so two sources gone right there. Femaleseeds seems to be out of stock, and Joey Weed in Canada, who also had a very good rep seems to be out too (not 100% sure of that, though). Reeferman has some C99 seeds that he has developed, but I don't think everyone is happy with his "send cash only" business style So I am starting this thread in the hope of establishing just what the availability of C99 is today, i.e. WHERE can you get it from, and also for people to discuss any C99 matter in general, give feedback on their C99 experiences, share C99 stories, etc... My own experience with C99 started almost two yrs ago, when I started growing (yes, it was in my first proper indoor grow! possibly part of the reason for my fondness of it.)
It is a great plant to grow, the pheno I had had THE BEST smell during flowering that I have ever come across, a wicked sweet "fizzy pineapple drink" smell. Once dried and cured it was more subtle and subdued, going more towards sweet-melon than pineapple. The high was ridiculously euphoric, you just got this huge dumb smile and eventually everything except the smile disappeared! I called it the "Cheshire Cat" weed. In small amounts it was quite cerebral, but overdo it and it definitely got edgy/para/trippy. Some negative stuff too, but I'll leave that for later. Let's just say that it's not weed I'd choose to smoke all the time, bit too edgy for that really, but made a great change, and was good for situation where dumb euphoria was desired! Strong smoke, too, a joint would get two people well and I mean well-baked. I germed it from a pack of SpiceBros seeds. Of six seeds, only two germed, only one was female - four seeds were kept back. As it happened the one female was rather excellent, and I ran her a few times over a year or so. She was a crazy feeder, easily taking twice as much nutes as any other strain, maybe more. Good yielder, and phenomenal trichome production, especially on the leaves. Later on I got to try various other samples of Cindy floating about, and I have to say I always liked mine the best (well, you know how that kind of bias works I managed to get a cut of this femaleseeds Cindy (which shall henceforth be known as the "Fish" cut, for various reason I won't go into right now). I am growing it out as I write this, one small plant in the drobe and a bigger one on the windowsill. I will add pics in my diary soon. I really like this pheno (does it show?) and I'd like to keep it, somehow. So I decided to find a dad for it. I germed the 4 SpiceBros seeds I had remaining (with some unease, since only 2/6 germed first time). Happily they all germed, giving 2M 2F. I did a seed run with these and the mum (That's 3Fs, 2Ms), so now at least I've got 100-odd SB "F2s", One of these SpiceBros seedling phenos had a really nice spicey aroma that I've never got in a C99 before - strong cinnamon overtones. Plus I've kept some pollen from the two males, and if all goes well I'll be pollinating a branch or two of fs "fish" cuts I'm flowering ATM. If the pollen doesn't take, well - ho hum, still got the seeds. I'll try again. I like this plant enough that I know I'll be running it for a while, anyway. No rush in this project, but I'll be curious to see what the results are... eventually. Anyone else made "F2" seeds from their C99s? And if so what results did you get? Look forward to hearing from other peoples' C99 experiences. This post has been edited by Gert Lush: May 12 2007, 02:25 PM |

I have just rooted 10 C99 cuttings {Female seeds version}
Bought a pack of 5 seeds about a year ago, managed to lose a seed someplace dunno how Its a doddle to grow as am still a noob at this lark if i can grow it easy anyone can i reckon, so am back to the cindys, 2 flowerings just now and bunch of rooted clones to play with for least another year, but cant see me letting it die off now knowing it as well as i have got to and seeing other strains i have done not being a match even usin reg seeds i will go back to other strains when i know more but the cindy is a keeper, the small compact pheno christmas tree kinda shape does fantastic in bubblers and yeild is awesome the other kinda huge n stretchy and smokes fantastic but i aint got round to lettin one get really big to see if the yeilds would increase a lot if was allowed to get pretty tall stick some more pics up soon when got batteries and things starting to look as good as they do get{see previous pics} long live the cindy will need learn how make seeds from it sometime incase any mishaps, thought makin seeds i think am allergic to though -------------------- |

I've never grown Cindy but its on my list for sure (if I can get it!)
You probabaly have seen these already, but if you aint, wallyduck seeds are doing a number of crosses with C99. The one that caught my eye was C99 x Bubba Kush. Don't know what stock they have used for breeding tho? |

Have to agree with FD on this one (shock horror) that it's a pretty mediocre smoke. Yeah nice taste but that's about it. Gets very boring after a few grows & smokes. I grew out Bauds Fleur du Mal C99 - easy plant for a newb & bullet proof, but whatever is passed about as C99 now ain't C99. This post has been edited by Bish: May 12 2007, 03:22 PM |

Bish, I seem to remember a post where he mentioned Romulan (or was it Romberry?) and C99 as being the two commercial smokes he found OKish. I don't remember in what thread. Or I might just have been very, very, stoned! If you know more, please do set me straight. |

I also have to say that I know quite a few people felt that the "inbreeding depression" in C99 gave it a few undesirable characteristics.
For one, I found that tolerance built up fairly quickly, and also continual smoking did leave me a tad edgy. That was with the SpiceBros pheno. However, the euphoria was such, that there's NO WAY I'd call it a bland or unspectacular smoke. The stuff was quite trippy in fact, as most who tried it agreed. It was actually quite a treat. Made a good hash too, (50-50 with Durga Mata). Oh well, we'll just have to see what the next lot will bring. (D'you think it might just have been a problem with the FDM stuff?) |

Yea, I'm inclined to agree, C99 was and prolly still is an over rated smoke.
Don't get me wrong, she packs a punch, hard as shit which makes it dead easy to grow, good yields, nice taste and an all round nice smoke....but thats it imo, not spectacular nor wonderful....just alrught -------------------- |
