Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had tried adding flavouring to the soil that you grow your plants in? We tried adding pureed blueberries to the top of the pots on some northern lights and watering with blueberry flavoured water (juice added to water) and it made a lovely smooth smoke. It made a big difference to the flavour of the finished smoke it took away the lemony taste of the northern lights and replaced it with a sweetness that made itvery smooth . Will be adding some to the new crop shortly and just wondered if anyone had tried anything similar perhaps with a different fruit.

I have read, i do not recall where, of someone experimenting in a similar vein (i wish i could remember where to provide reference). Only they where cutting the plant and then placing the stem in various strong flavours in water. The plant would then naturally draw up the water and the flavoring. I think i remeber they where having a powerfull effect with it.

For me however the flavour is one of the key addictions and an artificial flavour would surely detract from the experience. Though i could be wrong.......

I wish i was there to sample you experiments. Good luck with it

Believe me it enhanced the experience, had to try something we were getting bored with the flavour of northern lights (at one stage we had it coming out of our ears) and this seemed like a good idea. It was still a very strong smoke, it had me talking jibberish and my hubby always says that's a good sign.

ive never tried it, but i am plannig on doing it this year. There isnt a whole lot of info on the subject, but from what i have gathered is that to get optimal results, feed them fruit extracts, whatever flavour, 1-2 days before harvesting. Any time before that would be a waste because the flavour would just be metabolized anyway. I mean if you think about it, we feed these plants all sorts of stuff like manure, compost, decomposing fish, and basically all sorts of stuff that doest exactly smell all too great, and the plant still harvests with its particular plant smell (ie: skunk). The trick is to give them the extract, or pureed fruit in this case, and harvest the plant before it metabolizes to be virtually undistinguishable.

If i am wrong, can someone plase let me know, cuz as i said, i am still gathering info, and corrections would be valuable to my next crop smile.gif

Nearest i have come to flavouring was to use Vodka for Bong water!
Its a new one on me and i would be reluctant to try it, Just because of artifical flavours in juice ect ect.

We have three ladies that have just started to flower so we will do 1 the way we did last time, i.e adding fruit at beginning and watering with juice, 1 the way you suggest by adding fruit at the end of flowering and leave 1 natural. Will post to tell you how it turns out, just a shame we still have to wait so long cry.gif . I'm sure our old mate stu8z will have a taste too. We did read in a magazine about adding fruit to the top of the pots and watering through it for the last 2 weeks of flowering but that was all the info, there was meant to be more in the next issue but the mag got busted and shut down.

no artificial flavouring used mate organic blueberries pureed by me in my kitchen and the residual juice collected and added to plain water.

I really can't see how it'd work! - as it's taken up by the plant, it'll be meabolised into different compounds, very likely losing any flavouring along the way whistling.gif
If you really must flavour your buds, you can use things like cinnamon sticks in the curing jar, which certainly works! wink.gif

Never thought of that, cheers might give a vanilla pod a try. The fruit did change the taste significantly. I always find northern light to have a lemony acidic taste, which is very nice but when it's all you've grown so far it gets a bit boring, just wanted to try something different.

Aye, I'm not too sure either - does it mean that if you use fishmix you'll end up with fishy bud sick.gif

Also wouldn't putting fruit in the compost encourage root rot ?

absolutely! - just because I can't understand the mechanism by which it could work is no reason to diss it! whistling.gif

Thanks. by the way thanks for previous advice have ditched the miracle grow.

as for flavour don't know how it works maybe it has something to do with the sugars in the fruit being taken up by the plant.
