as the tittle suggests i put some plants out and wanna find some thin plastic too wrap around the cages and wired in too stick copper tape too.like the thickness of those coloured coded chopping boards yoy know the ones fish/meat/veg wrapped weather proof tape around the ones i stuck out today then the copper tape on that just get the feel it would come off with heavy rain for a prolonged period.so anyone got any ideas what too use i thought about a load of those chopping boards but would only want the dull coloured boards and a long lengh to wrap right around would be nice.

w lack of copper tape and plenty of grease available . a concoction was developed.
heard of someone rubbing grease nr to the base of cages - they mixed slug pellets, sharp sand and bits of metal 'fluff' from a lathe into the grease before applying

Used cling film on my cages, like a small greenhouse. Still in place, even with all this shite weather. Just till they r big enough to look after themselves. Not stealthy though, c it a mile away.

Peace

I've used sections of plastic mineral water bottles to stick the tape to,I just put them around the base of the stem rather than the cage though ! :bong:

I use those forestry tubes too transport the plant too the site I suppose I could cut lengh ways and use two bits too overlap each other then wire them in and stick the tape too  . Was hoping to find lengths of thin stuff rather than using multiple bits there's two piles of those forestry plastic protectors just down the valley from me there must be a thousand in each pile with about 500 yards between em I might whip down on the bike tommorow and bag a load more I took 20 this morning. :wassnnme:

Tin can, mate. Jagged edges. You don't need to copper tape the whole cage.

you need the copper tape round the stem of the plant
loam gnome uses empty shotgun cartidges cut up and slit downn the side to make a tube then put the tape round the cartridge tube

Im using 2 inch diameter waste pipe like from your sink cut 2 inches long with a split down one side and copper tape round . Seems to be working fine at the mo .
There's always a way !

a variety of yoghurt pots, shotgun cartridges and "Jackal/sid style" coils made from old flex I liberated. stripped and coiled round a screwdriver then wrapped around the stem(as i've found you need more than one pass around the stem, bastards go straight over one)

+1

This has been my tactic so far with good success (although I am still a n00b really).

At the base of the stem on this beaut you can see the plastic bottle segment with copper tape around it.

This works well but obviously is unlikely to give you the protection against rabbits that a bigger chicken-wire cage might. That plant is in my garden at the moment so rabbits aren't an issue, but I will be looking into making some wire cages when everything goes out to GG sites. I will probably use cages but also have bottles with tape inside them, can't be too careful eh?

i take regular electrical wiring, strip the cables down to copper. then make springs by wrappig them around a peice of copper pipe or something with a similar shape, and then put them over the plants as babies. make sure the gaps in the spring shap are not big enough for slugs, snails to get through though. :guitar:
