Hi gents!

I'm looking into building a smaller veg box in the size of 1m width x .60cm depth and 1.2m high.

I am wondering what types of wood to use for the frame and also outer case.
I'm thinking of insulating it also with cellotex?

I'm doing it this wknd and would love some feedback?

I'm going to run 220w PLL 6500k lamps of 55w each in a reflector.
4" vents fan with 4" CF extraction with 2x PC fan for intake, covered with cooker filter.

Cheers.

I would go to a DIY shop and pick up somthing like 2x2'' - whatever is cheapest, as long as you put it together properly, it should be fine.
Getting it air and light tight might be tricky, so pick up some sealant too perhaps.
Or go to the local tip and have a ganders, theres usually a cupboard or chest of draws - one man's waste is another man's treasure!

you could buy a small tent for the roughly the same cost as building a grow cab

a 60 cm tent can be got for around 80 quid on greens horticulture

Yea dude the light tight and air tight is what worries me, but I'm sure if I get it all together as tight as poss, it should do ok. I hope :-)

Cheers

Hey WM!

Yea I've got a .60 tent in the secret Hardin, which is pretty good and fine but I've got some 1m x .60 trays that I want to use so I'm opting for the 1m width grow box.
Plus I've never had a permanent fixture and always used tents and fancy something DIY that I can add too etc.

Just me being ultra cautious probably but if you must use MDF for anything dont cut it indoors and probly an idea to wash it down and paint it to seal any dust..The dust is pretty nasty and I wouldnt want that being fan-blown around anywhere indoors.Good luck with the project

MDF contains formaldehyde.
It emits formaldehyde for a while after manufacture.
Personally I wouldn't want it anywhere near anything I was going to put inside me (nudge nudge) but I'm probably a bit paranoid about things like that.

Cheers for the heads up.
The timber yard I got it from and very cheap compared to BnQ, already cut all panels to size, so it's only drill per holes and screw together. Each panel with be lined with diamond foil and a 6" black and white plastic as a waterproof tray stapled into place, instead of using large trays.
Also we're only talking 220w of PLL lamps being used with 4" extract, so very little heat to cook things up.

Boxed nearly finished and I'm well chuffed. Only have to cut 4" hole for extraction.

Will post pics soon.
