Hello I've watered my plants and have noticed 3 of them have green looking soil, has anyone else experienced this? Why might this be happening?

this is just temporery and is no real problem, its just algi growing on the soil, as the canopy fills out or if you block the light getting to the top of the soil it will go away..no worrys :)

Use a layer of clay pebbles as a mulch m8, will help your roots utilise all the soil, stops compaction, kills thrip larva and stops algae.
Cheap, effective and v worthwhile imo.

I've tried that, with a room temperature of 28, soil temprature went up to 31 where the pebbles got so hot and retained the heat. Decided against doing it again

Did your plants have any leaves? lol I've never had any problems like that m8, just make sure the layer is deep enough and it works a treat.

Do you use the pebbles straight from the bag saddam? They don't need soaking or anything before use do they, sure I read that some where! Maybe in coco

Wash off the red dust with tapwater and pour them on m8. No need to soak or Ph. Buy 10 litres and wash them between grows.. some ppl boil them in water but I've never bothered.

Yes m8, roots all the way up to the top of the soil can only be a good thing. Worth a fiver of anyone's money imo.

 They looked a bit different to those

In fairness they were only cuttings, so maybe a canopy would have helped. It's definitely a good idea, i just couldn't stop the soil getting too hot, so never did it again.

Hey Gunner mate...

like Saddam, i have some airpots... chuck the pebbles in an empty airpot...under the shower hose or under the garden hose for 10 mins or so... and the pain that are the holes in the side are a distinct advantage!!
