i havent even completed my first grow and i am already looking at more cost effective ways :) i have read up quite a bit about led lights and have got mixed feelings about them cause obviously the website/companies selling them make them sound the bees kness and i dont want to be sucked in too quick. has anybody tried/tested/grown with them?

Check my gallery to see the super lemon haze i'm doing under 2 x 120w panels (3w diodes)

Oh great joy, another brand new member with incomprehensible purple photos.
I was wondering when this week's LED thread would turn up.
I suppose this will have to do.

How much did you pay for them and what is your typical yield of dry buds ?

I see from your other postings that you are doing better than your mates' HPS.

According to Amazon, they're £400 for 250 watts ...

For people who don't do the maths before buying.
Not surprising really - I heard some terrible figure the other day about the percentage of people who leave school with less maths than they were supposed to have had at 11 ...

Mine isn't much better to be honest - failed my O level... :wassnnme:

I really wonder about the whole LED revolution and when you look at threads like the Think different LED grow that was linked on here for the guess the weight competition it's very easy to see why many people are interested in them, but I have seen it suggested that threads like that one are false and lies.I am confused and stuck trying to work out whether or not many of the nay-sayers have actually tried it for themselves,or seen it used before dismissing it as bullshit.I for one am really interested to see where LED grows can go,and until I have seen that LED think different grow completely blown out of the water by an HID user in terms of yield per plant against energy consumed I will remain impressed by it,and intrigued by the possibilities of LED technology

At the moment, all you really need to do is the maths.

If the LED unit costs 10 times as much as the HPS, just how much better would it need to be ?

And will the LED manufacturer still be there to honour their guarantee on a complex unit with 300 devices if it fails before the LEDs wear out ?

I've tried a 550w LED and a 600w hps and the hps pisses all over the LED.
Don't waste your hard earned on experimenting......they're shit !!

If you're that bothered bout cost savings, rather than piss money up the wall on LED's look into using T5 flouro's. They're cheaper and would do a far better job.

Hey t-rix, what led light you going to use and what will you be growing? I'm very interested in what led can produce now they have moved onto the 3w and 5w diodes.

Of course LED grow lights are working great, you might be interested in this link:

[SPAM REMOVED]

Red and White LEDs, that guy didn't use Blue LEDs, and he also got large yield.

I have just finished a micro grow with 50w DIY LED panel and got good results using just red and white LED 4500k,660nm ,625nm .
The cost of building panel was quite expensive £120 for 50w but i got enough spare leds to repair or add more wattage ,The
main advantage with LED for me was less heat less noise was able to slow fans down and keep max temp 28cAttached Image

- Do you know what you get if you cross a sheep with a kangaroo?
- A woolly jumper?
- No. It was horrible. We had to kill it with a shovel.

That's not physically possible - even if the light was twice as useable by the plant as the HPS or fluorescent, the difference would be minimal because we're still talking about a lot more heat than light.
If it's the grow being described on the other forum, the yield was very good, but not much different from fluorescent / small HPS.

The spread-out nature of the lighting is going to make a large difference.
